Novelleja lounastauoille.

Feisty, confident voices in these stories. Lots of emotional issues covered but not from the usual stale perspective.

Love her writing style, her dialogues, her language.
This is a book of short-stories. Some are really funny and inventive, others a little bland. My favourite was the last one, called Epilogue.

I am somewhat perplexed by comparisons made between Gavalda and Dorothy Parker, because this book is so, so French and Parker is so, so American. That said, I devoured this collection in an afternoon. It is like a box of fancy French chocolates with flavors like lemon verbena and lavender. Gavalda captures the essential wistfulness that, one way or another, usually emerges when a person loves another person. I will probably read it again, because the stories were somewhat effervescent. A few weeks later, I don't remember any of the characters or plots, just the very specific way this book made me feel.

This book felt so lackluster to me, which makes me sad because I had such high hopes! Certainly not terrible, but I wasn't marveling over it either. Just did not connect with these stories at all.
