This book was too depressing for me, opening old wounds, reliving the past again and scarring old scars deeper than a knife could. At first it was mysterious but then it got too predictable and worse boring along the way. I yawned many times I could count. Although some topics do open for questions as life and death is at hand. None will truly know when one hasn't experienced real death. So again this is quite different but not my cup of tea.

This book made me think a lot about what it means to be human. The idea of morality is such a fascinating thing to me as a person who is a nihilst. I love how no matter if we are mortal or immortal, we will always be humane; to make mistakes, to be curious and live in wonder and ,of course , fear. We as humans, live in fear that we will die, people we love will die and people who hurt, abuse and commit such disgusting and horrific acts.
As a Bigender, lesbian and immigrant, I live in fear everyday in my life. Scared that I will be hurt and kicked out from where I live.
This book truly imbodies what it means to live in fear and being feared, despite I don't kill people to keep down the population, it's what other people see me as.
I do hope that one day, we will no longer hate and distrust eachother.

well i certainly demolished this book. i gasped a few times. and it leaves me wanting more.

the overall premise of this book is very interesting. truly distopian. fills the little distopian hole in my heart. i found the various perspectives in this book either concerning or hopeful, depending which character it came from. the character developments were well planned and it left me wondering what’s more to come in the next book.

i would say this book was more medium to fast paced. right in the middle. i kept reading because i didn’t really know where it was going, but i wanted to find out. this book is gruesome, it’s the nature of this subject, but parts of it show pieces of humanity (that almost all scythes aspire to have). the side plots were very interesting and helped move the book along, albeit i don’t know if they were necessary? they kept me intrigued, which i guess is the point, but i wish they were fleshed out a little more. it just felt too quick in the grand scheme of the book. i hope they get expanded upon in the next one
