A sweet children's story about a boy and his stuffed rabbit. It's a story about the profound effects of being loved.

I never read this story as a child (or I can't remember it), and I'm glad I read it now. Such a sweet message.

“Real isn’t how you are made,” said the Skin Horse. “It’s a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real.”

A pleasure to read and re-read. This time it was with my six-year-old son. He gave it five stars “because it’s the best book in the world.” He also says it’s the saddest book in the world, and he might not be wrong.

This short book left me crying! there are some children's book that leave a much more profound impact when you read them as adults, this is one of them. You can truly understand the message with an adult's perspective! loved it.

“You become. It takes a long time. That’s why it doesn’t happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby.
But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.”

Decided to reread as an adult because I loved this book as a child. Still such a lovely story that gives me all the same comforting feelings. One of my all time favorite books!
