I always like and enjoy the IAD books but never love them. This seemed more insta-lust than love and I never really understood their connection. Still...fun story/characters and interesting things are happening in the overall plot.

This book definitely set up the next half of the series. I wasn't sure I would like Carrow going in. She seemed a little too "outrageous" in previous books and abrasive at times. Heroines like that have a small timeframe to prove themselves otherwise they come across as a cheap attempt of what the author is trying to pass as a strong sarcastic female. Thankfully KC did a lovely job here. Once the ball got rolling I had no issues with Carrow. I liked her even more by the end of the book.

I really liked Malkom too. God, that man had been through it and then some. His past and childhood was just heartbreaking. But I loved his strength and his soft underbelly. He was a great hero and a good match to Carrow.

I especially loved how this one took a turn where Carrow had to work for Malkom's forgiveness. Mostly it's been the men chasing the women in this series but he had every right to want her to prove herself despite knowing her reasons for betraying him. I respected him for standing his ground regardless of how frustrating it was at times to see him acting cold to Carrow after what she had dealt with from her parents. He was never cruel though. He had been betrayed all his life and so it was hardly any surprise to see him so suspicious of Carrow and just so saddened by his fated one losing his trust.

Overall it was a solid read. I do feel the ending could have used one or two more chapters to wrap things up. Such as Carrow explaining to everyone who she saw kidnapped with her, what went down with the escape, how she found Malkom etc etc. It was mentioned in throwaway thoughts how she talked about some things with Mari and such but I wasn't satisfied by that. Either way it was a decent read.

This one was intriguing with all the different landscapes that the characters live through. The prison where the Immortals were being held at, The land of Oblivion where where Malkom lived, the island wherre the prison is, and of course New Orleans. I liked how you were taken to many different places and realms, I also liked the fact that there was the language barrier between Malkom and Carrow for a good majority of the book. What I didn't like of this book, was the when Malkom would use Carrow for sex, but was basically on the borderline of hating him, because she had betrayed him to save Ruby's life. It was almost as if he was raping her though she hadn't fought him. I do however love how all the people of the Lore are coming together and one huge family/friend piece, which is great for the upcoming ascension or whatever it's called.

Ehh in general I like this world but this was not it for me. Maybe because most of it took place on an isolated demon plane. Every interaction between the main characters was so fraught with angst I wasn’t really rooting for them.

A DANGEROUS DEMON SHE CAN'T RESIST . . .

Malkom Slaine: tormented by his sordid past and racked by vampiric hunger, he's pushed to the brink by the green-eyed beauty under his guard.

A MADDENING WITCH HE ACHES TO CLAIM . . .

Carrow Graie: hiding her own sorrows, she lives only for the next party or prank. Until she meets a tortured warrior worth saving.

TRAPPED TOGETHER IN A SAVAGE PRISON . . .

"Demon from the Dark" embodies all the features I like in paranormal romance, weaving a compelling story marked by creative plot twists, dynamic and outstanding dialogue, heart-pounding action, and adventure. It's peppered with comedic moments, especially from the witches, which inject a welcome dose of humor into the narrative. The story masterfully blends mystery and suspense with deep emotional highs and lows, leading to a fervent and intense love affair between two characters I hold in high esteem. Malkom, the central figure, is a brilliantly multifaceted character whose emotional wounds belie his inherent kindness and dignity. Carrow, the female lead, radiates with her commendable humor and lovable traits, positioning her as the perfect counterpart to our hero. The introduction of Ruby, a seven-year-old, adds a crucial family dimension to the storyline, offering both the protagonist and the audience a cherished and meaningful emotional bond.
