It was fine, but also really annoying to read. The translation style doesn't do it for me - I do wonder what the original is like! The main character is obnoxious and there's some standard "in love with someone not interested in me but I'll keep trying" tropes. The setting of a Japanese mountainside with close communion with the trees was interesting, but overall I was bored and it felt a lot longer than 200 pages.

Really sweet, simple plot with a likeable and relatable protagonist. This book did an excellent job conveying the slow and gentle adoption of a newcomer into a tight knit community. I also appreciated that despite the main topic being forestry, the subject matter was easy to understand and introduced simply (the protagonist also being a newcomer was a useful device for a this). I was also a big fan of the tiny little love story side plot. Overall just a such a cute and fun read, I really enjoyed it.

Cute slice of life about a very remote mountain village community of foresters in Japan and their local customs. A bit heavy on the forestry technical details at times, but the characters were charming.

Really enjoyed this book, a lighthearted read and I learned a lot about forestry with it.

It is super slow but I enjoyed the vibes of this story.

This was a fun read. The protagonist/narrator had a hilarious voice, plus a lot of hilarious things happen in the book. I was thoroughly impressed with how much knowledge the writer put in about the Japanese forest industry, as well as forestry in general. You know those books where the protagonist has a job not many people know much about and the author sort of gloss over it or the job description never crosses the MC's mind?? This doesn't happen here. Over 70% of the book focuses on Yuki working with his team on the mountains. So, yeah, if you're up for reading a book on forestry, this is the one for you.

Charming description of the Japanese village life, quaint customs, and beautiful mountainous countryside. Definitely made me want to see the Japanese countryside. It's a sweet little relaxing read.
