The plot took an absolutely wild turn into wattpad RPF territory that was immediately unimportant as the book ended. I’ll likely read on because I do enjoy Laurence and Temeraire, but this installment sure was bananas.

Not a whole whole lot happened in this book, which much of it is due to the timeless dilemma of how to handle all the time of a sea voyage. I think Novik handles it pretty well though.

I liked "His Majesty's Dragon" better, but "Throne of Jade" is also quite enjoyable, a pretty solid and entertaining book. The book picks up where the last book ended, with the concerns about the Chinese not being happy about Temerarie being in hands of an English commoner turning true. The book moves a bit slow at the beginning, but picks up speed as the travel brings everybody closer to China. The depiction of the dragon world in China was quite interesting and different from that of the first book, and it was quite a pleasure to explore. But I'm looking forward to the storyline going back to Napoleon.

It was good, but didn't grip me as much as His Majesty's Dragon. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
