This book was a ride. What I thought would be a simple retelling was actually a full experience. I loved the writing style. It was immersive and intrigued me to keep reading. I couldn't put this book down. Some chapters felt a bit long for what was happening. I don't want to include chapter spoilers in this review so I won't explain in dept. But these chapters were mostly worldbuilding, describing what was happening etc.  I felt like these chapters slowed down the story a bit. Nonetheless, they are a big reason as to why the story was immersive.

Vanja is a great main character. Intricate, cunning, vulnerable and actually
a softy (in my humble opinion)
. The way that her different 'personas' were described and handled made it truly seem like they were different people. I loved reading about who she trul felt while being those people. I loved Emeric. He's both similar and the complete opposite of Vanja. There interactions were a lot of fun to read.
He really brought out Vanja's soft side.

Overall a solid plot, good characters and even better twists.

had a lot more fun with this one than i thought, but it was a littleeee bit cheesy at times. the romance also felt rushed which is wild when your main couple talks about being demi to each other. but they're fun. i really enjoyed the main character's arc, the commentary on classism and her healing from abuse. ragne is the best character in this entire book though... a lesbian half-god shapeshifter learning about humanity and falling in love with a princess ARE you joking.
enjoyed the acknowledgment that trans people exist in universe but the cast felt sorely lacking in BIPOC so i can't give it full marks on the diversity of its cast

I LOVED THIS SO MUCH!!! Honestly, I was extremely intimidated by the size and overall vibe of this book but I was intrigued after the first chapter. The writing is phenomenal, the art is stunning and the characters felt like genuine people. There were many plot twists, actual laugh-out-loud moments and a very unique concept. I'm so impressed at how well done this was and I am incredibly interested in reading Painted Devils. I had to focus in the beginning to get used to the world-building and glossary words, but once I was 10% into it, I could not put it down. I refuse to hear any criticism on this book.

This book kept me hooked from minute one, and offers a deeply relatable and incredibly well-written character for anyone who grew up feeling like they had to look after themselves because no one else ever did.  Exciting, sweet, and a very well written romance arc! As well as solid queer representation written into the world building, which is also just in general incredibly interesting and well done. Can't wait to read the sequel!
