Chance has moved to Mexico to be with Corine and although their relationship is progressing slowly there time alone together is all cut short when Corine finds out her best friend has been kidnapped by Demons. The pair quickly find out that the kidnapping is to get Corine to jump into the demon realm and take her place on the throne.

I was really sad that the ending of book 3 SHADY LADY left some of Corine's closest friends without any memories of her. Although they finally get their memories back so much has happened and so much has been lost that it still leaves you really sad at the end of DEVIL'S PUNCH. The setting of book 4 takes place pretty much fully in on the Demon plane. I cant say I enjoyed it as much due to the fact that everything changed so much from what I'm used to reading about Corine. The world building is really great and the new characters were interesting but it just didn't feel like the other Corine books. The situation with Chance pretty much falling head over heals for the Demon Queen really bugged me. I understand a little bit because of the overall situation but come on, he is in love with CORINE and he didn't see anything seriously wrong with his behavior? I just had a really hard time with that overall and it made me lose faith in him. There is a lot of high emotion throughout the book and I did find myself bawling in a few parts. It will be interesting to see where Ann takes the series next.

DEVIL'S PUNCH was not my favorite of the series but a lot did happen to move the series along and I will be reading book 5 when it comes out.

I’ll keep reading this series because the story is interesting, and I’m invested now. That said, I still don’t like Chance, even if he did experience some character growth. His “love” is more like obsession, he has little personality outside of ego and that obsession, and every omfwearesoinlove moment feels forced AF. The only good relationship-type thing in this story is the friendships and that Jesse has moved on.

And I missed Kel. She writes him so well and clearly likes him, and that bleeds into the story, making Chance and Jesse pretty flat by comparison.

This series takes a real turn for the strange, going from a contemporary paranormal mystery/thriller to a fantasy/horror and then back again. I had to skip 2 or 3 scenes to finish this one. I'll give the series one more chance with the next book but this series may be to strong in scary and sex for this reader!

Devil's Punch picks up right where [b:Shady Lady|6767883|Shady Lady (Corine Solomon, #3)|Ann Aguirre|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1302689192s/6767883.jpg|6913777] left off. Corine and Chance are in Mexico, Corine's trying to rebuild and work on her magical skills. Things are going great until Corine gets a note saying that Shannon has been kidnapped. Because of events in the last book, Corine knows that demons are involved.

I like this book but I don't think it was nearly as good as [b:Shady Lady|6767883|Shady Lady (Corine Solomon, #3)|Ann Aguirre|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1302689192s/6767883.jpg|6913777]. I really missed Kel. Chance was awesome and has definitely changed and is serious about being with Corine...but I got really attached to Kel in the last book. We finally find out more about Chance, which is great! It's kind of a shocker, to be honest :)

I don't know exactly what made this one less enjoyable for me, it had all the right stuff but it just wasn't as interesting. I think the problem may have been Corine?? And I don't like
Spoilerthat Jesse and Shannon are dating
.

It ends with a huge cliffhanger so I'll definitely be reading the next book in the series!

Don't think I will be continuing on with this series it is just too depressing and the 'romance' stuff is not at all romantic. Chance is just not that likeable. It was ok when Jesse was around as an option but now that is off the table. Also didn't like how she wasn't really Corrine for a good portion of the story either. Glad to see she got Shannon back though.

I don't know what it is lately but I've been disappointed with Ann Aguirre's books lately. And it's kind of complicated in that I'm not disappointed in the writing quality or Ann Aguirre's ability to keep me glued to the pages. It's more of a disappointment in the directions her series are taking. I still love the author's writing and I want to find out what happens in both this series and her Sirantha Jax series, but I wish the past few books in the series turned out differently.

Look, at least part of this is my own fault because I didn't realise this book was part of a series when I borrowed it from the library. So I had no idea who the characters were, what their history was, and what their motivations were. As much as it frustrates me when authors like Janet Evanovich put a two page info dump about the main character at the start of EVERY BOOK IN THE SERIES ("My name is Stephanie Plum, I live in Trenton, I have brown curly hair and blue eyes and I should probably work out more but LOL NOPE I'll just eat doughnuts instead. I'm kind of a train wreck and I pretty much suck at my job, but two hot guys want to bone me, so I'll go ahead and call it a win. Also, at least one car will get destroyed in this book"), at least it helps readers who can't be arsed to flip to the title page and see if it's part of a series to understand what the hell's going on.

ANYWAY. Mostly I was bored and wanted this book to be over. I thought about DNFing it about a hundred times, but was already half way through before that thought occurred to me, and that seemed like I was past the point of no return. So I kept reading. I didn't care about the characters, I didn't really care about the plot, and I'm pretty sure I gave it an extra star for the fact that it contains a dog that can communicate using barks and Scrabble tiles.

Maybe if I hadn't jumped into the middle of the series, things would have been different. But they're not.

The fourth book in the Corine Soloman series finds our heroine heading off to the demon world, Sheol, to rescue her best friend. Chance, Corine's once and possibly future love, goes along to help, determined to prove that he is a changed man. The quest to see if both characters achieve their respective goals provides the underpinnings for everything that happens in this book.

I really enjoy Ann Aguirre as an author but I have to say that I like her Sirantha Jax series a little bit better than this one. A primary reason is there is bit too much waffling on Corine's part when it comes to her romantic life. Forget about a love triangle, this one becomes a love square by the third book. Seeing Corine vascillate between three love interests was tiresome for me and took away a lot of the shine of this series. That said, Corine does seem to come to a final decision on that front in this book.

The story itself as presented in this book was enjoyable for the most part until about the two thirds mark. At that point, there is some weirdness going on with Corine and I'm not sure that it, or how Chance responded to it, worked for me. There also seemed to be a feeling of rushing to the ending, which was unsatisfying. The ending itself took me by surprise and left me unsure if I should be feeling sad or hopeful - which of course means I have to read the next, and final book in this series. Not that that's a bad thing. :)

Devil's Punch was filled with so much action, I hardly knew how to continue! Corine went through so many things that made my heart not only break, but completely shatter for her.
