I wanted this book to be good so bad. I was ready to dive into this world with over 10 books in the series I was really excited. But this is not . This book wanted you to believe things that itself did not . The characters are flat , no depth in any way. The story is not consistent .The main character keeps saying he's hiding the fact he's a wizard but he displays it to everyone he meets for no reason most of the time . Another review said it best show not say , that's how I felt throughout this book . I did not believe anything about the main character , even the fact he's a billionaire . Maybe I'm just missing the point .

Wow, right from the get go this was on hell of an adventure!
I love the characters, the pace of the book and how there are some great twists and turns, as well as lol and tense moments. I am officially addicted to this series!!

This was a very strange book to review because it seemed that Silver's writing style changed completely in the middle of the book. I have to admit that I actively disliked the first half. Silvers used words strangely or downright wrong, the grammar was off and sentences read in a confusing way, and they didn't flow well. It kept pushing me out of the story.
The UF worldbuilding is just plain weird. Dragons having horizontal pupils? Aren't vertical pupils more traditional? And I do not like what he's done to conflate unicorns and Pegasus. I get that he's trying to be unique, but it just seemed like he was wilfully ignorant of mythology.
The romance was handled badly and it was just gross and pervy in the first half because they got together before the characters were established and they hadn't had enough non-sexualised interaction. Nate was arrogant, callous and annoying.
And then....it all changed. Nate starts actually talking to people rather than at them. He starts to have human feelings. He starts to see the problems with the way he was behaving, and regrets it. The writing seems to get better.
Spoiler This seems to happen around the time he has to take over his parent's company

It seems that this is a story of an irresponsible overgrown boy learning to take responsibility for his actions and caring about things other than himself. But it's hard to stick by Nate long enough for him to do so.
I do want to read the next one, because I want to see him grow up even further (I hope that happens).

I’d give it zero stars if I could. This reads like a 14 year old boy’s fantasy. Main character is a powerful magician, a multi billionaire, super hot, super cool with a werewolf BFF.
All the women are super hot and drop their undies when they see him. Just ugh.

If I could, I'd give this 3.5 stars. It's a well-written, entertaining, and funny modern fantasy thriller. I got a lot of enjoyment out of the madcap storytelling and the excellent action sequences. That being said, there's no character development at all and nearly every single female character serves the primary purpose of being eye candy for the protagonist and the male reader. It's not an uncommon problem, but it bothered me.

Amazing urban fantasy!

This is the true flagship of the genre! Harry Dresden’s got nothing on Nate Temple. Well worth a read for any fan of the genre.

Action packed from beginning to end. I liked the book. I look forward to reading other books in the series.
