XD

This book is super cute! If You Happen to Have a Dinosaur written by [a:Linda Bailey|186774|Linda Bailey|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/authors/1284365252p2/186774.jpg] and illustrated by Colin Jack is a guide for the uses of dinosaurs. Giving instructions on how to use your dinosaur in case of rain or if in need of a pillow this book with it's beautiful illustrations expands on the imagination of little ones, especially little ones who love dinosaurs! My three year old loved this book! Giggling at the things this book says to use your dinosaur for (like an umbrella or mowing your lawn). This isn't an educational book by any means, simply a book to expand on your child's creativity. My only complaint was the random ending. It ends with now if you happen to have a kangaroo....what does that have to do with dinosaurs? Even my son looked at me like I was nuts when I read that last line. I think it would have been better suited with something you would do at the end of the day like bathing or going to bed. But that's me. Otherwise, this is a sweet, short story that can make a great bedtime or anytime story!

I received an eARC via Netgalley from the publishers in exchange for an honest review.

My daughter thought this book was adorable. I enjoyed the first half. Then, the sting of ownership occurred to me and I realized what I was reading - a book teaching kids about how to own another life, another creature. The dinosaur wasn't quite a pet in this book, a creature that you take care of that also takes care of you, but more of a servant [or slave] that if you taught well and treated 'nicely' would do good work for you in the area you chose FOR "it". The book outlines how a dinosaur may be 'suited' to a type of work, rather than how they may choose it for themselves. The book portrayed dinosaurs as a higher-order thinking being that should be able to choose for themselves, yet, promoted the idea that you should own one and decide for one. Yes, I realize I'm quite possibly over-thinking and being over-sensitive, but honestly, it just left me with a sense of sadness.

Funny story with fabulous illustrations that would be great for talking to students about persuasive writing.

The illustrations have a lot of character and the characters have a lot personality, but it is a long book and it looks like it walked off a Disney movie screen.

A great, imaginative story that will appeal to nearly all children, let alone those obsessed with dinosaurs. Creative ways of using any dinosaurs that happen to be lying around. The illustrations are colourful & engaging, although they looked a lot "older" than they are - I was surprised this was only published 5 years ago. Love the last 2 pages that challenge the reader to use their own imagination.

This is a fun read that will leave young readers with a model for writing their own story. Colin Jack's cartoon style illustrations add an extra level of hilarity for the reader.

This is cute, quirky and rather fun to read aloud book, yes I read it out loud a few times to get the feel for the rhythm of the book. That is a very important consideration when choosing a children's book, never buy one you can't easily read out loud or that isn't fun to read out loud.

The art is cute, bright and cheerful and rather retro and I liked the wide variety of dinosaurs used, the former teacher in me wishes the names of the dinosaurs were provided but that would pretty much bring the story to a screeching halt.

For young children I don't see this having a lot of repeat reading appeal but as a book to read aloud it could be a lot of fun.

I really enjoy the story and the illustrations. My nephew found this story quiet entertaining. He laughed at the illustrations especially the babysitting one with the baby hanging from his diapers out of the dinosaurs mouth. He liked it so much he wanted me to reread it to him.
