Ok, so the writing is good but I just couldn’t believe in this romance. She loves this guy?? How?!? He never really redeems himself. And I hated the dub-con throughout. This book is NOT my thing.

Lachlain McReave has been imprisoned by the evil vampire king for some 200 years. While chained in the sewers under Paris, he smells his destined mate walking about above. After he escapes, her pursues her relentllessly, only to find out she is a youg vampire, Emmaline. Well, actually, she's a sheltered half-vampire/half-valkyrie who is trying to find out any information about per parents.
The book has a few brutal parts, but I really liked this book. The rest of the series (save one - Demon King) are great! Subsequent sequels feature more valkyies, vampires, witches, Fae, and more werewolves.
Incidently, reading this series has inspired an urban fantasy I'm writing about Valkyie and other Nordic characters taking place sometime in the not so distant future.

There's a LOT going on in this book. A lot of characters, a lot of world building, a lot of history. I found it all enjoyable but I might revise the rating as I read more of this series. It depends on how things eventually play out.

I'm sure it's just me. I'm just not terribly into a highly dramatic paranormal with vampires vs. valkyries vs. werewolves right now. Maybe it's just my mood, or maybe it's that I've moved beyond a PNR from the early 2000s. This was fine, but I was happy that I borrowed it from the library rather than purchasing it.
