In 1967, in London, a middle-aged wife pursues an affair with a man half her age. This is a story about female desire and more. It looks at the effects of that desire on her husband and her two children as well. There is loss and gain for all of them. The famous permissiveness of the era is some of the catalyst for the woman’s behaviors. But family chemistry plays a telling role too.

I almost didn’t finish this book but it does get more interesting about halfway through. Perhaps it’s my age but I found none of the characters relatable. I found myself getting more annoyed with Phyllis and her so called ‘new life’; she is aware of her privilege and her whiteness but I don’t think she goes further than that. I think I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone else. That being said the writing was good and the twist was unexpected, if a little unbelievable.

starts to get rlly interesting like 125 pages in, you do have to stick at it and see it through. fun and entertaining enough, wouldn’t be something i would recommend to others i don’t think. also kinda underwhelming? but the way everyone is connected is kinda funny

DNF at 40%. I was looking for something more racy and interesting? I found this boring and common.
