Wow!

Detective with issues. Overbearing boss. New partner. Serial killer that leaves no forensic evidence. All pretty much standard for this sort of story. It took a while to get into it and it was annoying that almost every character in the book was introduced followed by their back story which added little. I skipped the paragraphs on buying wine and making coffee and was about to give up but it did pick up and by the end become quite an interesting and exciting story. Will continue with the series but hope some of the writing improves.

I have seen so many people reading this and I knew I needed to pick it up, and I am not disappointed that I did.
Whilst this wasn’t quite the pace that I was expecting it was still really easy to read and a really good police procedural book. I think having seen other people’s reviews I had such big expectations of this that it was never going to be able to meet them, and that is totally the fault of me not the book.
I loved Robert Hunter and I will definitely be reading more of the series as I am so intrigued to see where it goes. This had all the elements that I look for in a police procedural serial killer book, good plot, good characters and relationships, lots of trauma and gore! I did guess who had done it pretty early on but that didn’t ruin it or bother me in the slightest.
The only thing about it that bother me is it opens with a flash forward of what is going to happen and then we have to travel back to get to that point, and for me personally that is one of my least favourite things in books, I do not like prequels and I do not want to find out what happens before I get there, if I had known I most likely would have skipped the opening and then I would of enjoyed the experience much more!
Overall all this was a good book for the genre and did everything I wanted and needed it to, the disappointing is from me expecting too much from it. I am really looking forward to seeing where the rest of the series goes, I need more Robert Hunter in my life. He would translate so well to television!

I started this book one night and I kept thinking, "I'll just get to the end of this chapter and stop..." But I just couldn't stop! It was really gripping. The plot and the killer was a great storyline, but more than that the characters are well-thought out and developed and the interaction between them all was believable and natural.
The killer and the murders were very brutal and genuinely made me shudder at certain points but that is what I love in a book. Needless to say Chris Carter has been placed on my, NEED HIS NEXT BOOK NOW, list.
