Yo, what the fuck did this have to do with the rest of the series? What the fuck did I just read?

Octavia was going THROUGH IT when she wrote this book! if you're unable to handle gore - like me - I suggest reading this with cautious eyes.

This novel from the Patternmaster series depicts a disease that changes the behaviour and abilities of infected people in a near-future world. I liked this novel for its exploration of how different people respond to and resist being controlled by the disease, as well as the world-building which depicted both positive (scientific and technological breakthroughs) and dystopian (gross inequalities and violence) elements. In terms of the three books in the series I have read so far, I enjoyed this book more and thought the writing was much better than Mind of My Mind

Quick read, fascinating premise, weird ending
Re-read after reading the first two in the series and honestly it seems so disconnected from the first two books. Other than
the description of clay's ark itself, which is only really relevant to getting to the premise and doesn't come up again.
But maybe the next book will tie it in!
