It was OK, I really kind of expected something more, although I don't know why.

A reread! I first read this book almost 20 years ago when it was released in English. I remember absolutely loving it, and getting just so wrapped up in the fantasy world. I decided to revisit this story now; not necessarily for the characters, but because of the atmosphere and detailed descriptions. All these years later the descriptions of the cozy home(s) filled to the brim with books has stuck with me (and become a personal home goal). While I can’t really afford a home in this market; the next best thing is to read about one, right?

On to the story. It was just as magical as I remembered it to be! Yes, it’s very chunky but it’s so packed with lovely descriptions and multiple pov. It’s definitely for those that love books and reading, but not in an overly academic or elitist way. Some scenes are a little dark, might be scary for younger readers and there is a hint of misogyny from some characters. Overall, I think it holds up to read either as a kid or adult (or both). I’m not sure if I’ll continue to reread the whole series right now, but this gave me the comfort read I was craving.

I wasn't a big fan of this book. When I was a kid, I saw a musical I think about it and that was great. The idea is also pretty good. But the book was totally boring. Usually, I don't mind that, I have a lot of patience with books. But this one - it was different. Maybe the reason is that I read it like when I was about 12, so I was already too old.

A true wonderful book that warped its reader in a world full of magic. So many memorable quotes about books as well.

So I have no idea when I read this book for the first or second time, but this is actually my third time reading this lol. While I’m not sure I would have liked it *quite* as much if I was 23 reading this for the first time, the nostalgia and fond memories of the characters and story 100% get this book 5-stars. Of course don’t get me wrong—this story is also extremely well written with some of the most fun characters! I also just so appreciate that despite this being a middle-grade, besides Meggie, pretty much all the characters we follow are adults. I just love the maturity and knowledge Cornelia Funke has that children are smart enough to read about adults, too.

And of course…besides Wolverine, Dustfinger was the beginning of my love for the antihero with the tragic backstory. To this day I still love this character to death and I can’t wait to finally continue on and finish this trilogy (which is why I re-read this lol). Reading this was like a warm hug from my kid self. So great!!!

Lite långtråkig och upprepande men med ett fantastiskt och färgglatt målande språk.

I remember reading this book and loving the imagery, fantasy, and the idea of being able to bring books to life... This novel was one of my favourites!
