This is more so about Jerry's own life/that time period and I disagree about the "Useful" part in the title. I think the last paragraph of the book gives decent advice but overall unlike Goggins or Banyan, there's no great challenge that he faced and overcame due to his ability or some certain action. Weintraub admits it himself, he got his start due to his luck with mentors picking him (a big one his wife) and the mentor's bringing him up despite him lacking ability. Overall the main message I took away is to fail better.

This book is made of short vignettes seemingly made of capitalist parable. Some of it is quite compelling, all of it very human. Ego, the drive to succeed, the hungers success can breed. Jerry had a lot of valuable things to say at the end of his life. Almost all of it makes me want to never be like him.

If you read between the lines, you can guess that he was a huge asshole. This is especially obvious during the conclusion of the John Denver arc.

All in all, there’s a lot of useful stuff here.

Jerry Weintraub has some interesting stories about his life wheeling & dealing in Hollywood. He has worked with so many musicians and actors and many are close friends. He has lead an intersting life.

Wonderful stories I've had this on my list of books to read For over a year. Jerry is an icon like no other and brougt some cult classic movies that we just love. The last chapter was just absolutely wonderful and I shed a few tears.

Loved it. One of the last good old boys from Hollywood. Friend to many of the stars. Was a self made man who was quite successful and had many well known friends from George Bush to Elvis. From his humble beginnings from the Bronx to Rolls Royce in Beverly Hills. THis man did it all and lived to tell it.

There are a lot of stories here that might whitewash some of Jerry's faults, but beyond that, it is a good book. There are a lot of interesting and fun stories, and he does share life lessons that would be valuable to anyone looking to make a name for themselves. In particular, his views about shaking things up when you become too comfortable stuck a personal note with me. It is a fun read.

Entertaining and often unbelievable autobiography from a famous producer - Jerry Weintraub. He worked all over the entertainment industry: broadway, film, music/concerts, television and knows everyone. There were great exploits of his adventures and stories of hanging out with world leaders and acting greats. Very much a self made man with an inspirational story. There are tidbits of advice and lessons throughout that the reader may find useful.
