I am afraid that I wasn't all that interested to begin with because I didn't know what was going on. I have read the first half-dozen book sin this series but not the latest. I basically listened to this one because Phil Gigante was the narrator.

Although I'm a fan of series in which you get to know the characters well because they remain in the series through, I'm not fan of series novels that require you to have read the entire series in order.

The first three or four chapters in this, I had no idea what was going on because it seems as if it went directly after book 17, which I had not read.

After awhile though, I got more interested in the main female character, though both main characters kind of annoyed with their high-handedness and stubborness.

Overall it was okay, but I'm not a huge feehan fan. I am listening to book 19 though, because again it is narrated by Gigante :)

Enjoyed this one even with Manolito being a jerk at times. Enjoyed the mystery of discovering what MaryAnn actually was and learning more about the werewolves.

***SLIGHT SPOILERS!!!***

So, we got to see werewolves in here. That was cool. MaryAnn was a very kind and strong heroine, though I had to wonder at her ridiculous fashion choices in the rain forest. It was her armor, I get that, but still. I've wanted to see her happy though, and her hero, Manolito, was the perfect guy for her. In the previous book, he marked her without telling anyone, and while he had her under compulsion. So, she had no clue about their connection when this started. Adding to that, Manolito began the story with memory loss, as he'd woken up too early from an injury that almost caused him to die. He was trapped between the normal world and the spirit world, and that made for a great plotline. The spirit world was definitely creepy. Also, MaryAnn was helping Jasmine and Solange overcome their trauma while learning about herself and being under attack by jaguar, vampire, and mage. Also, there was an interesting side character named Luiz, and I just want him happy. Manolito is my favorite De La Cruz brother so far.

Very good book have been rereading a lot of the dark carpathine series I have on my bookshelf an this is as I remember it. A very fast but suspenseful journey.

I just did not enjoy this. I found it hard to care what happened to any of the characters, and honestly I get the the Mary Ann character used clothes as emotional armour but i could have done without the descriptions of her outfits that seemed to go on forever.

This represents my latest foray into trying to get into Feehan's Carpathian series. I tried the first one, the second one and the one where everybody got together for Christmas. Couldn't finish any of them. They just didn't capture me.

With this one, at least I finished. But I think that was out of sheer stubbornness more than anything. This book was so was so full of mystical woo-woo that I was lost most of the time. Manuel's soul was in some spirit world while his body was in the temporal world and he was in love with Mary Anne who was busy becoming some super powerful whatever. Werewolf? Wolf? They were all in a jungle somewhere. I hate books that take place in the jungle.

Oh, this was a really great book, loved rereading it, and it has the werewolves, which was interesting, and I'd forgotten about it, and it's going to connect to the new trilogy in the series! And it has Mikhail's parents!
