Back in the world of Cesarine and the Chasseur Tower, and with Celie (the first woman Chasseur) and her fiance, Jean Luc.

But all isn't well and, let me just say now, shame on Jean-Luc - I know he thought he was coming from a good place but it so was not.

This led to Celie making the most horrendous decisions. Honestly Celie made me rage throughout this book, her decision making was poorer than poor but I will say her character growth was huge!

So after all that Celie went through (ugh that coffin part) she finds herself kidnapped and a Bride, but not in the way you think! Michal is a generous host and I loved him from the start - not sure if I was meant to, he's a beautiful man!

I know I haven't said much about the plot but I don't really know what to say without giving spoilers so I'll say nothing!

Nice to see Lou and Reid again, happy she had her sticky buns but was disappointed there was no big tiddy liddy!

But that ending....WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?!!!Ready for book 2 now!

Although my interest in Serpent & Dove went a bit downhill during the series, I loved the side characters (Lou and Reid's romance was my problem). And specially I loved Celie in the final book so I was intrigued to see where her story was going. And I wasn't disappointed. Celie is not your typical book heroine, she's soft, she's not particularly physically strong and can't fight. But she doesn't give up, she's resilient. And I love her for it. I hated Jean Luc during the book (what's new I guess), and I loved the inclusion of Coco, Beau, Lou and Babette. And Les Eternels, loved them. New characters bring a breath of fresh air into the series, but Michal and Dimitri were specially interesting. And obviously, we can't forget the romance. Good, not taking too much of the general plot and with a good foundation. You really can't ask more from the book. I'm plesantly surprised with the book and I'm waiting for the sequel

I…

I’m gonna need a minute.

UPDATE: Thirteen-ish hours later

I’ll admit, in the S&D series, Célie was kind of a throwaway character. She was the girl who loved Reid, and who Reid loved, before Lou stumbled into his life. She was the girl who tagged along in their adventures and inexplicably fell for Jean Luc.

But damn, Célie Tremblay is SO MUCH MORE. The trauma she suffered at the hands of Morgane la Blanc—and her PTSD—is tangible on these pages. She’s multi-faceted, with seemingly no regard for her own life if it means her loved ones are safe and healthy. And when she’s thrust into a terrifying new environment, she doesn’t cower and hide. She finds ways to survive over and over again.

And while I love the glimpses of our favorite characters from S&D, this new cast is chef’s kiss. I would sell my soul to Michal Vasiliev in a heartbeat, just saying. The scene in Les Abysses and then in the attic afterward?

At the time of reading this book, I hadn’t finished the Serpent & Dove series yet, and I highly recommend doing so because I was a little lost. I was, though, quickly able to re-center and enjoy this book so freaking much.

There isn’t too much that I can say in a review that doesn’t give things away from the previous books, but this is a companion series that takes place after the end of Gods & Masters, following Célie, someone instrumental in the Serpent & Dove series.

It’s been six months since Célie joined the Chasseurs and her fiancé Jean Luc is smothering her whilst trying to protect her, though Célie is determined to prove to everyone that she is strong and WORTHY of her rank.

When a new evil descends upon them, bringing death so close to their doorstep. And Célie finds herself directly in the center of it all. Still reeling from the scars of her past, she is plunged into new dangers, finding that she is integral to this new conundrum they all find themselves in the midst of.

I absolutely LOVED this book. The darkness and the intrigue was masterful, and the side characters, the new introductions are to die for!
