Went into this book thinking it would be a work of fiction, but was pleasantly surprised that it was rooted in real-life events. Very interesting read on the U.S.'s longest-standing teen-run EMT program with blunt chatter about the history of racism (which includes pop culture/entertainment references) that still lingers in Darien, CT. Engaging from beginning to end. The only thing I wished was that it was a little bit of a longer read.

Author didn’t seem to know which story to tell - the story of the town, the racial history of the town, or the teenage EMTs.

This was an absolutely wild true life story about a wealthy town where high schoolers work as EMTs.

Fascinating, both about the program and the town of Darien. I wanted more info on the young paramedics, and would have liked this to have been longer. More tantalising than in depth.

Really fascinating short piece/longread about the EMT service in Darien which is operated by teenagers. Someone needs to write the YA book based on this asap.

Interesting read. This was partially about the town of Darien, Connecticut and partially about the ambulance service in Darien that was / is staffed by local teenagers. (free prime read)

I'm giving it 5 stars only because I feel this story has sooo much potential. There are so many parts of this that the author barely touched, but that have the potential be fascinating aspects of this story.
I would have really loved to hear more about how and why this program works in a town like Darien. Is it because these are white protestant kids in a white protestant town? It seems like the answer to that is a resounding yes, so it would have been fascinating to hear more about it.
Regardless, it really is in an interesting story. I would have loved to be a part of a program like that when I was in high school, though I wonder what the long-term effects are on these kids. It also would have been cool to hear more about that!
