If the goal of the first book in the series it to make sure that the reader can't help but want to come back for more... well, consider this one a success! Right from page one I found myself drawn in, and those final moments still kept me wanting more. Needless to say, the second book cannot get here soon enough!
So, what made it such an enjoyable read? First and foremost, I loved that it kept me on the edge of my seat. It was fast paced with a good deal of action thrown in. There were several times when the timeline was mentioned that I found myself amazed at just how much action had occurred within just a few short days. Unlike many stories, we were actually able to get glimpses into the bad guy's point of view... without ever having been told exactly who that was. We were giving plenty of clues... aimed in many different directions, so it was difficult to figure out exactly who it could be. As much as I enjoy the challenge of figuring everything out on my own, I really love books like this that keep me guessing. While I may have suspected who would eventually be revealed (and even figured out some of the other surprise reveals), there was enough suspicion thrown in various directions that I just never could be sure...
For me, the only thing that can make a good suspense even better is a bit of romance too. The relationship between Brooke and Luke was really enjoyable, albeit a little frustrating at points too. I enjoyed both of these characters, and their chemistry was undeniable. While certainly very much a part of the story, I feel like it did definitely take a backseat to the action so while romance lovers like myself will greatly appreciate it, I would think that even those who don't particular care for romance might find it doesn't take away from their enjoyment.
Overall, this was a great way to start a series. I cannot wait to see what the next book will bring...

Standoff is a Christian suspense romance by author Patricia Bradley. It is installment #1 in the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series.
Was someone at Boudreaux Enterprise laundering money in offshore accounts, or was it all legit?
National Park Service ranger Brooke Danvers wondered why Mississippi State Senator Jeremy Steele wanted to date her. He was definitely out of her league. What lengths would he go to for a date with Brooke?
The Cartels wanted to block the legalization of marijuana in California and Colorado. But, why? Had Justin Boudreauz’s men killed John during a drug bust? The coroner had ruled his death a suicide. Luke Fereday was an undercover cop and he would ferret out the person linked to the Cartel.
Standoff is a fast-paced and tense read. I recommend Standoff to fans of mysterious reads.

What a start to Patricia's new suspense series. I really enjoyed this quick and easy read that introduces us to the Natchez Trace Park Rangers. The mystery was very good. There were several suspects and pieces to fit together to solve the mystery which made for an exciting read. I am looking forward to more in this series!!

I have been wanting to read a book by Patricia Bradley for a while. My library has her Logan Point series available digitally, but I had just not gotten to them on my very long TBR list. I was so excited to see this one offered as a Bonus Borrow in the month of November from Hoopla. I grabbed it on the last day of the month and finally got to it in my queue. To be fair, it took me a few days to "get into" the characters and the story. I do not in any way think that is a reflection of the author or the book, but more the busy time of year and lack of time for reading (as well as a very divided attention span these days). Once I settled in and learned all of the characters, I was hooked. I only live a couple of hours from Natchez, so reading about so many familiar places was a treat for me. This was a well crafted mystery, and I was kept guessing until the end (I had narrowed it down to two people and one of them was our bad guy). This book introduces us to Brooke Danvers, a National Park ranger in Natchez, whose father is also a ranger. Brooke is switching from interpretive history to LE (law enforcement) after completing her training, and is looking forward to working with her dad, whom she adores. Her next door neighbor's grandson, Luke Fereday, also pops up in town (they had a thing when they were teenagers), but something doesn't sit quite right with Brooke where Luke is concerned. We have undercover agents, drug cartels, state representatives, murder, explosions, wrecks and all sorts of mayhem to wade through before it is all resolved at the end. Looking forward to reading book 2, about Brooke's friend and fellow ranger Emma, in the second book entitled Obsession.

I was surprised, the summary on the book seemed like the story was going to be told from Luke Fereday's point of view. After reading, I feel like it had a duel point of view of both Brooke Danvers and Luke Fereday. Brooke is going through a lot. Starting a new job as a National Park Ranger Law Enforcement Agent. Her father is killed, an old flame (Fereday) arrives on the scene. She is exploring the possibility of a new love interest. Meanwhile, you find that Luke Fereday is undercover trying to help her find her father's killer and investigate some other activities. He's not sure he's the relationship type. A nice surprise in the plot (which I won't reveal) which added an additional twist to the ending. There actually wasn't a lot in the way of the 'christian fiction' part of the novel. There was a bit with Luke Fereday's aunt. Overall, great suspense/cop novel as well as a nice romance. #netgalley #standoff

Standoff started off a little slow but by chapter 12 it picked up and was an enjoyable read from that point onward. The secondary characters were enjoyable and I look forward to Emma’s story in the second book in the series. The Ancestry DNA secondary storyline was interesting as well as Brookes interest in her family genealogy to me as a genealogy nerd myself.
I look forward to the next book in this series as well as Patricia’s back list books. I recommend this book to fans of romantic suspense.
