I saw the BBC mini-series quite a few years ago and couldn't remember much beyond Richard Armitage (swoon) and the industrial north. After reading the book, I understand why. It's a bit too Victorian for me to love it, and the plot seems to go on a bit longer than I'd prefer (especially the long tortured love story). Throw in too many weak and/or silly characters, and I just couldn't give it 5 stars.
That being said, I loved Mr Thornton both in the book and (of course) the mini series. His love is constant and all understanding.
I would ALMOST call it a re-telling of Pride & Prejudice.
Themes: industrial age, unions, north vs. south, clergy
