I learned a bunch of things I didn’t know about these boys. I heard a lot of fun and funny stories about these boys, their friends, their music, and their city. I enjoyed it most when Adam and Michael read it themselves. It was just nice to hear their voices. And nice to hear their words. And Yauch is forever missed.

There were so many unique things about both the text and audiobook, I read both concurrently. Worth it. A love letter to the departed Adam Yauch, and an enjoyable visit through the history of a three way friendship.

Usually when I reach the end of a book I am more or less ready for it to wrap up. I never wanted Beastie Boys Book to end. Highly recommend listening to this gift of a book on audible.

This will probably go down as my favorite autobiographical work of all time, for many reasons. It's heady, hilarious, and truly all-over-the-place, which is also consequently how you'd describe Beastie Boys as musicians and creative people. The diverse and perplexing choices for the readings in the audiobook also enhance this vibe and although it's occasionally disorienting, it's truly unforgettable. The pace at which I listened to the book allowed me to revisit the albums in full as they were talking about them, which is something I highly recommend. As a grown up punk myself, I identify with these dudes more now than I ever have, and I'm so happy I found this book.

Definitely weird, but that's exactly what I was hoping for. I listened to the audiobook (which I highly recommend), but if you just have the audiobook you're missing out. The book has tons of photos and recipes, maps, etc. I often referred to my husband's hard copy book while I listened.

Incredible

The Beastie Boys are so much more than the hip-hop swagger personas on their records. This is an in-depth look at the genius and inspiration behind the music; it's a love letter to the music and experiences that shaped and grew one of the most influential musical acts of the 80's and 90's.
