Things you will need to read this book:

1. A Suspension Of Disbelief hat. You need quite a bit of SOD to read most fantasy/paranormal books, but this one requires a touch more than usual. So get yourself the amazing SOD hat and it will help you through those tough times.

2. The patience of a Saint. This is needed for all the time leading up to and including you finding out exactly who/what the heroine is. It is alluded to, it is hinted at, many wrong guesses will be made until you are literally shaking the book and screaming, "JUST TELL ME ALREADY!". If you can't get hold of the patience of a Saint I can recommend the patience of a Nun, the patience of a Shaolin Monk, or the patience of one of those guys who make those little ship in a bottle thingies.

3. Some heavy duty make up and concealer. If you are planning on reading this book in public this is an absolute must to cover up all of those blushes. Yes, this book is just as hawt as the last one.

4. And finally, you will need....to pre-order the next book! Because although this book wasn't quite as engrossing as the first one (I gave it 4 but really it's more like a 3.75 compared to the first one), this is still a very classy, well written paranormal book and any Paranormal Romance lover would be remiss not to add Dianne Duvall to their shelf. I certainly will be reading the next instalment, Phantom Shadows, when it hits the selves October 2nd, 2012.

Truthfully I only read these books for Seth.

So I rather enjoyed this one because of Ami's close connection to Seth. However, her and Marcus' story was very sweet and sexy, despite the screaming instalove.

I really liked Ami as a character. She's manages to keep up with the Immortals and Vampires, despite her many fears she's mentally strong and endearingly shy at times.

Marcus is a strong, sexy hero who has an odd history. His relationship with Bethany and Robert, and his loyalty to them captivated me.

While there may not be anything extremely original about this story, I enjoy the simplicity of it. There's no horrible relationship drama. No cheating, the barest hint of jealousy, no psycho possessiveness. No whack ex-girlfriend issues.

Just a simple, sweet romance with a bit of fang.

First thought when finished: Oh MY! Even better than the first one but really OCTOBER for the next one :(

What I Loved: Just about everything! I would really like to wax poetically and make you realize just how fun this series is but I wouldn't do it justice. The characters are mufti-faceted, rich, deep, and fun. I was never once bored while I listened to the story on audio (11 hours or so) and the story built on the last book. I admit I was a little skeptical about Ami and Marcus in the beginning (it's a Seth thing) but I quickly grew to love them together. She was just right for the grouch and she melted his little hard heart! It was fantastic. Their give and take was very well done.

What I Liked: I loved the building up to Bastien's story because I know it is coming next. I think his will be doozy!

Things that made me go huh?: Not a darn thing!

Audio Specific Thoughts: Kristen Potter did a pretty good job with the narration of the story and I really hope they stick with her for the audio. This was enjoyable to listen too!

Final Thoughts: I want Lissette, Seth, David, and Marcus to have books. Oh and can there be a spin-off of the humans please :) Also can we explore Ami's family too! I know that is a lot LOL Dianne Duvall might just have a fan girl for life LOL

I have no idea why I put off reading this book for so long because I loved it! I think I was a little afraid Ami was going to be a weak female character because of the way Seth found her but hell no, she was a freaking bad ass. When Seth first puts Ami and Marcus together Marcus does everything he can to get her to go away and she doesn't take any of it and she helps him fight the vampires. If it wasn't for her Marcus would have been captured or killed. and I LOVE that Marcus doesn't downplay what Ami can do either. Even when he didn't want her there and he wasn't sure what he felt for her, he still was proud and boasted about her fighting skills and I freaking loved that.

I love her relationship with seth, David and Darnell. Ahh and they all call her sweetheart. Freaking adorable. And I even like how Sebatian is protective of her. Basically you can't hate Ami. She is the sweetest person and if you wrong her or someone she loves she will kick you ass which makes her just freaking awesome. She's one of my favorite characters ever I think.

One of my favorite things about this series is the relationship with all the characters. Not just the two main ones but the close relationship with everyone. I love the family atmosphere. I love all the funny "mind" banter. There isn't judgement, just acceptance. Like with Ami's big secret.. They tell Chris and he doesn't say anything really. He just accepts it. That to me was so freaking cool. I fell a little in love with Chris at that moment.

Night Reigns, Immortal Guardians #2, By Dianne Duvall
Grade: B+

“And damned if his spirits didn’t immediately lighten as the boy who lived in his memories poked his head out and shouted with glee, She thinks I’m handsome! She thinks I’m handsome! I’m in serious trouble now.”

Marcus Grayden is a gifted one and when he was infected with the vampire virus over eight hundred years ago he turned into a Immortal Guardian, a group of warriors who protect Earth from vampires. Marcus has spent the last three decades working alone with no human Second much to the dismay of his boss Seth, leader of the Guardians. Seth thinks it’s time for Marcus to play by the rules like everyone else especially now that vampires are banning together and attacking in large groups. Marcus never expected Seth to assign him someone like Ami, a strong, sexy human who Marcus can’t seem to ignore no matter how had he tries.

Ami is unlike any Second the Guardians have ever seen and she is determined to make Marcus accept her. Ami has a hard time with new people and an even harder time trusting people with her secrets and she has a lot of them. As her first assignment as a Second for Marcus, Ami refuses to sit back and let him go into battle by himself and she soon proves that she is more of a warrior then anyone expected. Together they can help the Guardians figure out who is leading the vampires and how to finally stop them once and for all.

As a PNR fan I dove straight into this book and didn’t look up until the very last page. Whew what a wild, fun and action packed ride Night Reigns was. From the first page we are thrown into the war between the Guardians and the vampires and it is a bloody, vicious battle. I love books that have action, mystery and paranormal aspects and this book has all three in spades. This is the second book in the series but I had no problem jumping right in to the story without reading the first book. There are very few series out there that you can jump into without feeling lost but you will have no problem here and that is a big plus in my book.

Ami is a wonderful heroine and she can kick some major ass when needed. I loved the mystery surrounding her and I’m not going to spoil anything but I was guessing right up until everything was revealed. I loved what was revealed and that it was totally unexpected in the best way possible. I never found myself annoyed with her and she never turned into a whiny female. She did what she believed in and never followed anything or anyone. I wish there were more heroines out there like Ami.

I didn’t like Marcus as much as I loved Ami but he was still an amazing character. I warmed up to him a lot towards the end of the book but I wasn’t a huge fan at the beginning to be honest. I didn’t like how he acted towards Ami in the beginning but he redeems himself as the story progresses. The side characters are a wonderful surprise and they really help this be a great book. I enjoyed the different perspectives from multiple characters and I fell in love with a couple people and really hope they get their own books in the series.

Night Reign is a wonderful sophomore book in a series that I can’t wait to read more of. From the first pages this story will suck you end and you will not want to leave until all secrets and mysteries have been revealed. I am very excited to add the Immortal Guardians to my must read series list.

Marcus is an immortal guardian who can see ghosts and I liked this special talent he has. I will say they don’t really do much with it and I wished the author had done something with it.

Marcus has loved and lost, and he was losing himself and Seth, the leader of the guardians, was afraid he wasn’t going to come back. So, Seth took things into his own hand by giving Marcus a second.

Ami we will come to find out is very special, and if you are like me and read the other series first you know who and what she is. So, this book was extra special for me.

Ami becomes Marcus’s second and I loved this pair so much. I also liked how it was like magnets he moves, she moves. But it took Marcus more time to warm up to her but when he does it's like fate.

Just a stellar book.

Again, I am loving the narration not overdone, it is just right.

This series continues to deliver excellent surprises; in a genre sometimes saturated with retellings Ms. Duvall gives new life to the undead.

The world that I liked at the beginning of this series has both expanded and begun to evolve; now encompassing not just otherworldly phenomenon but other worlds, and becoming a dynamic and interesting place that I am eager to delve further into. I enjoyed the plot of this book, while the outside conflict was a bit trite through most of the book the inner struggles between characters more than made up for it and once those calmed down the outside forces found a twist that took things in a whole new direction. I loved all the characters in this book. Ami, both strong and vulnerable due to past damage and Marcus the thawing ice-cold heart that had felt too much, along with all the secondary characters we met in the first book including glimpses of the staring couple after their HEA. After finishing this book I am eager to see what story is next as at least two possibilities presented themselves, both stories I would love to read.

I give this book a hearty four stars.
