Even though this is the second book in the series, I feel like there's more world building that goes on. With that being said, I don't think it's the best world building ever, and definitely leaves some things up to interpretation. I kept getting a little confused and felt like there were holes in my understanding of the story. I still really enjoyed it and read it pretty fast like the first book. We start to learn more about the dynamics between some of the characters and the lenths that they will go to protect what they think is important.

While I have some mixed feelings about this book, I mostly enjoyed it! At some points it was messy but in a good way, but at others... not so much. I think the angst between Lou and Reid was dragged out a little bit too much, and it got tiring reading them having basically the same "argument" (not that that actually really talked much during these spats) over and over again. I get why it was happening, I just think reading about it so often was a bit overkill.

Very slow book. Lots of filler and back and forth. Definitely picked up at the end but 400+ pages of nonsense meant I took much longer to read this one than the first one.

It was fine. Reid was getting on my nerves. I think I’m gonna skip the third book and move on to the scarlet veil
