As a long fan of the show I felt it was high time to begin reading the series. While some character do not look the way they are described I feel like everyone was chosen for the acting ability and therefore were excellent choices. The scenes that were changed for the screen I also think, for the most part, were edited well and changed primarily for speed and detail. The scenes that are hard to stomach in the show are even more gut wrenching in the novel. That said I would seriously advise against reading this book or watching the show if you are triggered by violence (sexual or otherwise). If you can manage stomaching it, the descriptions of scenery, characters, situations (good and bad), and the romance and motions that come with it Diana is truly unmatched in terms of writing. Her style is simple with a storytelling ability that makes it easy to start reading and not stop. Its a world you don't want to leave. In my opinion, this is historical fiction in a way that will have you looking up the events referenced if you don't know what it's talking about so be wary of 2 AM rabbit holes. This book will truly make you feel all of the things, sometimes at the same time.

Look, I wasn’t wild about how sex was treated in this book at all. I liked the characters but I spent a lot of time thinking that it was written at a time where “they’re married” excused a lot on the hero’s part tbh.

Whew this felt like a major accomplishment finishing this BEHEMOTH of a book (and this is the shortest of the series-- wow I'm going to have a great time when it comes to reading more).

I originally watched the Outlander TV series during the pandemic, but stopped watching in the middle of season 2 from what I can remember due to emotional distress (I literally couldn't stop crying after a /certain/ episode, iykyk). I recently started watching season 1 again because I like to torture myself and figured I should read along with the show. And WHEW I was blown away by how close the show follows the book! By far the most accurate book-to-screen adaption I've seen so far!

The book was outstanding. I've been on a time travel book kick recently, and Outlander is the best. You'd think with a 850 page book, some parts have to be slow. Nope! Action packed the whole way through! I can't wait to start on the next book and continue reading about the adventures of Claire and Jamie <3

(I also need to visit Scotland asap)

It started out with a nice concept - and from there slid into a repetetive story of an older woman constantly patching up the younger heroic "I will take those punches for her" protagonist until they fall in love, by some odd chance have to marry and then proceed to have lots of sex in every other paragraph. Especially whenever the older protagonist has nearly been raped and saved by the younger heroic protagonist.

Not really my cup of coffee.

Didn’t know how I’d love this, after watching the series first. I am even more in love with Jamie and Claire now.

I'm not over how incredible this book is. The story is so rich and dense and eventful and I love it.
There are so many amazing characters, not only the main ones but also the secondary!! I could find aspects of (most of) their personalities that I think reflect on me as well, so they felt particularly real to me.
I'm not sure I'll find enough words to phrase how it felt to be into this world, because I was really overwhelmed by it.
I loved living the tale through Claire's point of view and learning about her reflections, internal struggles and worries and together trying to elaborate what she was going through -which must have been reasonably terrifying, but yet she managed to face it with strength and bravery. She is also self reliant and very caring, after all.
Jamie. Do I really need to say anything?? He is simply wonderful; good hearted, brave, understanding, intelligent (and has suffered too much my heart hurts).
Their love story is one of the most beautiful/romantic I have read about, they seem to be made for each other.
Throughout the development of the plot we've seen quite a variety of settings, each of them very peculiar, such as Scotland's breathtaking landscapes; castle Leoch; Lallybroch; Eldridge Mansion; the abbey of Ste. Anne de Beaupré (I loved the scenes here... I was pleasantly surprised with the dialogues between Claire and father Anselm! this stage of the novel was so deep and dense).
The ending was splendid as well!!! I'm looking forward to book two and the twists of the plot.
I'm sure there's more to be said, but at the moment I can't think of it.
