I found this book while doing some research on neurodiversity and instantly knew I had to read it! Being a huge baseball fan, this book was right up my ally. It follows a young baseball fan as he navigates the 1947 Dodgers season, while also trying to communicate all the happenings via sign language to his dad. I really love how this book took something I love and am so familiar with and put it in a completely different perspective for me. I would use this book book with 1st graders to introduce them to situations they may not be familiar with. This would be a great book to add to the classroom library to increase diversity on more than one front.

The story's theme of overcoming prejudice and discrimination touches my heart every time I read it.

This is a great book about how people may relate to each other or find heroes even if they are a little different. This is a story in which the main character's dad is Deaf, and has found a hero in Jackie Robinson. (The main character is based on the author by the way!) It's a fun look at Jackie Robinson's start in Major League Baseball. I wish it hadn't been so seemingly repetitive and had gone a little deeper, but I did really enjoy the message and the story. I also enjoyed the development of the story of the father and son.
