When a car crashes right in front of her, newly minted PI, Paige Holden, becomes ensnared in a vicious web of lies and deceit revolving around the wrongful conviction of an innocent man. Together with Assistant State's Attorney, Grayson Smith, Paige uncovers a decades-old crime and the people who would kill to keep their secrets.

An action-packed suspense plot and an enjoyable romance, but the book is overly long with unnecessary repetition and recapping of events.

The conspiracy style investigation is intricate with many complex twists and turns. Although the outcome is relatively predictable, Rose still manages to keep the reader engaged mainly due to her excellent characterization. Silas, the reluctant assassin, is especially compelling and one cannot help but sympathize with his predicament despite his immoral actions.

Paige and Grayson are likable both as a couple and as individuals. Their backstories are very intriguing and add an extra layer of nuance to their personalities. While their chemistry is wonderful, it is never really clear what they see in each other beyond physical attraction.

There is a huge cast of characters and it is not always easy to keep track of the various friends and foes. Moreover, there are too many scenes that reiterate plot points and conversations along the way. These could have been removed to make the book shorter and more cohesive.

Overall, a solid installment in the series and the hints at stories to come are very appealing.

This is an extremely complicated story. And then a really nasty story to. Not in the way of blood and gore but in a way of politics, dark secrets and people taking the law in there own hands. There is a lot for characters to keep track on, a lot of information from different ways and it sometime gets confusing about which character knows what and do not know what. And it is not that easy for you as an reader to keep track on it. That is my biggest complain for this book.

However I do love the characters and there story. It is a long book with over 500 pages but perfect for those cold winter nights.

Really love this story, it's actually one of my favourite Karen Rose novels. There are so many threads to this story, but they all come together fantastically and create a real page turner. That I have now read a few times, and honestly enjoy it more each time. I'm also a huge fan of the two main characters Paige and Grayson and there is plenty of chemistry between them which really adds to the overall story and I would totally recommend it to others.

Really good book, I very much enjoyed the mystery of it as well as the view points of the people who were involved.

I really enjoyed this book. My only regret is that it ended and my library doesn't have any more available in audio.

I don't usually read romance or suspense, both genres I have been trying to read more of recently. And to be honest, I was more the pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this. The combination of the two genres worked really well, and the chemistry between Paige and Grayson added a slightly happier element to the darkness of everything going on around them, and as they fall in love it really does feel like the risks - for both of them - become greater.

There are a lot of characters in this book, something which usually annoys me but the style and pacing keeps them all clear and separate, and they all stand out in their own right; even those that only get a small amount of space become fully fleshed and easily identifiable. It's a fairly long book but there weren't any parts where it felt like it got bogged down - the change in scenes works well, and we get the viewpoints of a variety of characters throughout the course of the novel's events, drumming up even more mystery as we try to work out who each one is.

Thoroughly enjoyed this, and will be checking out more of Karen Rose's novels.

PI and State Attorney investigate a wrongful conviction and murders in the past and present. As usual, KR weaved a immersive, interesting suspense plot with lots of players and super bad guys. The leads are great  - they're both brave and determined, and I especially loved him, his protectiveness and his core of integrity.

Their connection is admittedly instant but intense (KR's trend but I'm not mad about it), but given the circumstances, their romance works and is believable. Loved the sexual tension, and the moment when they finally give in. The trust and respect they have for each other really drives their chemistry. Would've loved an epilogue into their future, however!
