Okay. So we have the Secret History but instead of the Classics, we have a bunch of theater kids who can quote Shakespeare better than any twenty-one year old would ever be able to. I thought the plot and the writing were good, but if you took out all of the quoted Shakespeare half the book would be missing.

Amazing read. I flew through this book. The characters are so hatable and lovable and flawed and perfect. I'd love to reread this book. Just a side note that there are lots of potential triggers here.

Whaaaat the hell... that was a rollercoaster of emotion towards the end. Rio created a great cast of characters, and I loved how they all interacted with each other (even in the ugly moments). I knew I was into the book when I started developing theory after theory of how I thought the book would end - I was wrong. ♥

This book has lived on my shelf for far too long. I wish I would have convinced myself to read it sooner. Although the characters are tremendously flawed, you can't help but get absorbed in their world as the story unfolds. These characters are the perfect mix of college students who are trying to make their way in the world while knowing that they have been placed on an unreasonably high pedestal. The higher you are, the farther you fall. I don't want to say the ending was a cliffhanger but I will forever hold out hope that the story ends in favor, that the clues left lead to the ending that bring peace and not heartbreak.

A bit predictable, the ending made it worth it.

I love Shakespeare, and I don't know that this would hit the same if I didn't, but dang, this was great. I will say while I love Shakespeare, I am not a Shakespeare scholar, so there were good chunks of this that went right over my head
Spoiler like the passage left in the note at the end--I was like...okay....until I looked up discussions on the book and DANG what a cool ending
this merits a reread for sure

A classic dark academia set up. A group of fourth year students at an elite arts university, with Shakespeare being the name of the game, when there is shift in casting, those who play more secondary roles are moved into the spot light, feelings and egos are bruised. Then one of the seven fourth years is found in the lake after weeks of being cruel towards the rest of the group but when they all have a motive, it’s hard to say who’s responsible or just an accident!! This plot kept me intrigued, I enjoyed that the story was split like a script into acts and scenes, it was actually really effective how each of the different acts were introduced by the main narrator in the later timeline then goes into the past timeline. The story dives into the complexities of human relationships emotions and motivations plus explores how far one would go for someone they love.
