The only good parts are the story bits and sometimes the author additions. The author's pre and post story are boring.

This was my TBR Jar Draw from May. It took me long time to start reading this one. I liked it for dynamic pacing and the humor. Brings out much more questions than it appears at first.

It’s easy to see why so many love this story, and the movie adaptation. It’s smart and funny and doesn’t take itself seriously. Not all of the parts aged well, but overall I think it still works.
The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because the edition I read had 2 introductions that were a little confusing, especially not knowing it was all fictional at first, and a very unnecessary first chapter of Buttercup’s Baby. Everything I loved about The Princess Bride, I hated about that extra chapter.

Okay so it isn't that I didn't like this book, it's just that the movie is my favorite of all time. The Morgenstern story is great, I really just didn't like the extra bits about the "author's" life. I think the depiction in the movie was more charming than the ramblings of a cynical hollywood writer. Still really nostalgic to read, though

I was reading the 25th Anniversary Edition. First time reading it after loving the movie for years; I definitely pictured all the characters as the movie actors. It was really good, and pretty accurate to the movie. It was interesting to see how the movie adapted certain scenes from the book. Well paced, a lot of details we of course don't know from the movie, which I love. I didn't realize how deplorable Humperdinck and Rugen are! I love all the author's notes throughout, until the end, that is. I did not enjoy the Buttercup's Baby chapter included at the end. It was poorly paced and had too many interjections that detracted from what would've been a poorly paced but interesting chapter. It could've been presented more effectively than it was. But on the whole, I really enjoyed the book and def recommend.
