Good graphic novel, but the books are better.

i understand that there are dozens and dozens of vampire books with female heronines in circulation right now, but this series is different and has been around a lot longer than the craze. this is a long series that you will become addicted to. laurell k hamilton knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat and how to write characters you can get attached too and relate too. this a series surprisingly enough that both men and women would enjoy. her earlier books are bloody and more along the lines of detective, sleuth work and are absolutely brilliantly written. her later books are a slightly more heated but calm down again after a few novels. this is a series that will fit in all genres. please read.

It starts off a little like a Monster Mash, in which for some reason every kind of monster that exists in the world needs to be mentioned or seen. For example, for no good reason there are a bunch of were rats that try to frighten Anita while she is waiting at the vampires' house. They add nothing to the plot.

But once the initial world-building is out of the way, it becomes a fun mystery to be solved, and I'm curious to see what comes next.

I loved the first few in the series with their carefully crafted plot lines and this graphic novel does Hamilton's writing justice. The characters are incredible well drawn and the subtle changing of expression really brings their faces to life. It shows their emotions in the way graphic novels are supposed to compared to conventional novels and it's really important to pay attention to the drawings as much as to the dialogue on each page. It's a shame that the books are split into two parts but it does mean that bits aren't cut out to facilitate it fitting into one graphic novel.

Bookopoly 2021. - Dark cover
Nikako mene zadovoljiti.

Uzimam i nastavke u stripu.

I actually just skimmed this when it came into the library and it was terrible. Of course I thought the first two books were horrible - never ventured past the second book-so that might have some bearing on my feelings about this, but not much. (I only picked it up because I was curious to see how they had adapted this series to graphic novel format.)

The dialogue is melodramatic taken to the ridiculous extreme. It reads like a 70s romance novel. It's just terrible. The artwork was okay although the characters had a tendency to look alike. Anita doesn't look anything like she should. And the villains are cheesy to the extreme.

This book was OK, since I'm not a big fan of graphic novels. It was written by the author of the original novel series, I was curious how she physically saw the characters.
