What a great pairing!

I really loved Matt and Bailey together in both the OR and their growing relationship.

This book is definitely for those of us that enjoy a slow burn romance. (Hello ~70% in to the book hookup)

* Super serious intense doctor
* Skilled surgical assistant caring for a younger sister
* Romantic glances in the OR

Bailey is probably one of my favorite female characters I've read recently - she's smart, skilled at her job, and has a heart of gold. On top of all that, she's hilarious (I mean, 2 dozen shrimp in your purse?! That's my kind of lady) and human. She's put her personal life on hold to raise her sister and work on her career.

Matt is laser focused on his patients and his work, often forgetting to call his family or sleeping in his office. Bailey is his breathe of fresh air among the chaos of their jobs. (Even if she did post a picture in the break room after drawing devil horns)

I loved following them through their triumphs together in the OR and watching them fall in love with each other.

I'm excited to read the next book coming from R. S. Gray, Make Me Bad!

When Bailey’s mentor retires, it leaves the young surgical assistant in need of a new job. Luckily, Dr. Russell has a new opening - if only he wasn’t the grumpiest, sternest surgeon in the hospital. Bailey takes on the position but finds Dr. Russell - first name Matt - almost impossible to work with - not least because she finds him so attractive. But when she starts to see a different side to Matt, she has to rethink her feelings about him.

The writing of this book is quite strong overall and the slow burn aspect of the romance worked well for me. I liked that Matt was genuinely hard to like for a lot of the early portion of the story - seeing him soften not just towards Bailey, but in general, was quite sweet. Their relationship was full of sexual tension and the sex scenes are hot and well-written.

However, there were a couple of parts of the writing I found a little clumsy, and I also thought it was a bit too long - the ending felt very dragged out and the

plotline needed to be introduced way earlier than it was. There was also some language that I found gender essentialist, and a one-off use of a homophobic slur that I found very jarring. I’ve read stuff from this author before and have found it very hit-and-miss - this book falls somewhere in the middle as there were aspects I thought were well-done but some of the language used really let it down for me on reflection.

Content Notes:
SpoilerWarnings: Scenes of surgery and medical care, blood, references to cancer, death of a parent (in past), traffic collision (in past, side character), use of a homophobic slur.

Other: On-page sex, minor OM drama
SpoilerHeroine briefly dates the hero’s younger brother, but she doesn’t have feelings for him and he’s only doing it to annoy the hero. Nothing physical happens between them.
, divorce (hero, in past).

Great read!

I absolutely loved this book. Great character development and plot. I currently work in the medical field so this was great to see a workplace romance that meshes so well. Will definitely be checking out other books from this author.

Me, giving R. S. Grey 5 stars? It's what she deserves, Rachel is the undeniable queen of rom-com/enemies to lovers/workplace romance genres! I adore how she always writes her heroines as strong, successful, witty and vibrant women, who aren’t downtrodden or helpless, like you see in SO many romances these days! Plus, she dreams up the most hot, arrogant, talented, flawed, lovely pricks of men that you just can’t resist falling in love with.

This book has everything you need! Hot hospital romance, a hardworking and determined heroine, an arrogant yet total swoon worthy McDreamy-esque guy, heaps of sass... AND it’s hilarious, plus, it’s worth every second. I’ve never once felt disappointed or dissatisfied with this authors books, I’m going to go ahead and crown her the Queen of Happily Ever Afters too.

Another sweet, funny romance from RS Grey! It appears I really like the hate-to-love trope, I guess it's because there are always sparks between the H & h.

Cover: It fits with Grey's other rom-coms but is kind of hard to see what's going on.
Narrators: Both were excellent!
Hogwarts Sorting Hat: Another book that mentions HP - there are a lot of them! Matt is a Slytherin and Bailey is a Gryffindor.

Themes: spinal surgery, medicine, New England, teenage sister, arrogant doctor

This was my first R.S. Grey book in a genre I rarely read (contemporary romance) and I have to say, I’m impressed. The story was well written and the romance believable. Having worked with grumpy but amazing doctors I can understand the grudging respect that Bailey harbours despite Matt being stern and rude. Him being hot tips this into reluctant lust, despite being driven to anger by him constantly. The only reason this is a 4 star read instead of 5 was due to the “voice” this was written in. It was written in 1st person POV, but was more like being told a story by the character instead of being the character. Not a huge issue, but just something I found ever so slightly off-putting as it kept me at arms length from the characters and story. Or maybe not arms length, perhaps just a finger length. I will definitely be reading more from this author.
