I am loving the Amelia Peabody series! My only complaint with this one was the lisp Ramses spoke with. I found it distracting and annoying to read all his 'th' as 'd'. But that's a minor complaint. Hopefully in the next book he'll have grown out of it.

Delightful to revisit. The nefarious American missionaries stick in the memory.

This was the first Amelia Peabody book that I actually read instead of listened to. The first two books in the series I listened to on tape, and the narrator made Amelia's character wittier and more endearing. So as I read this book, I could hear Amelia's voice - which made the book even better. I really enjoyed the addition of Ramses as a character and look forward to seeing him in the other books. Also, loved 'de cat Bastet' and the lion cub.

I thought I had read this book some time ago, but realized I was mistaken. The mystery in this episode is a little convoluted and I am still not satisfied with the outcome. However, it is truly charming because of the character of young Ramses, who is, as his mother described him, catastrophically incorrigible. His escapades make the book and will make you laugh. I sympathize with Peabody and her list of "don'ts" for her son, which grows constantly but is always deficient on some level, as he continually demonstrates. A truly enjoyable read.

I read this series when I was a teenager and I missed out on so much. I enjoy the dishonest or biased narration and subtle jokes. Its a fun read.
