Audio:

A super slow start and it took quite a bit for me to really engage with the story and characters. I don’t think I was fully invested, even the whole way to the end.
The narrators did a great job, with the story.
I think this is a case of not for me.

This was an enjoyable first book in the series! Reid and Leona were so much fun to read even if there were some heartbreaking moments. I loved meeting the rivals of Fulton U and am looking forward to book 2!

⋆¸* the forbidden romance bewteen leona and reid being because of his coach being a dick is chefs kiss. FUCK THAT COACH

⋆¸* lego nerd AND. pinky promises? st francis u’s tradition being an all out game of tag is so cute.

⋆¸* “ i’ve seriously lost my touch if it’s taken you this long to realize i’ve been flirting with you “ reid riddick you flirt

⋆¸* I set my hand on the seat and brushed his pinkie. He crossed his over top of mine and darted a quick look my way. Our little secret.

Kiss and Tell is sweet with a touch of heat and enough unfortunate drama that will leave you unable to put it down. It’s an incredibly well-done college sports romance, and you’re not going to miss it.

This is the first book in a new series set on the STFU campus and centers around Reid, the popular football player, and Leona, the adorable and slightly vulnerable new transfer. Reid has his mind set on being drafted in the NFL, and he doesn’t want anything getting in the way of his dream, at least in the beginning of the book. On the other hand, Leona is the new girl on campus whose father happens to be the president of STFU. They meet when Reid literally runs into Leona, and from the first moment, they’re both a little smitten. Trouble arises when Reid’s coach, the horribly mean and unpleasant Coach Mikelson, and Leona’s father turn out to essentially be enemies on campus. Because of that, Reid and Leona have to keep their new relationship under wraps, and this story follows their path from their first meeting to what happens when their relationship transitions to more with all of the drama surrounding them.

This book is a prime example of why I fell in love with Maya Hughes’ writing in the first place. It’s well done, interesting, and has just the right amount of deliberately placed drama that leaves you desperate to find out what happens with the characters. There’s somehow a lightness but still a sort of gravity to this book, and I loved seeing Reid and Leona’s relationship bloom despite the outside factors that could definitely make trouble for them both but especially Reid. His future is in the balance if Mikelson finds out who he’s dating, and all the angst that goes with that is palpable.

Another positive for me in this book are the supporting characters. Their friend group is so strong and so readily have Reid and Leona’s backs, and I really enjoyed the scenes with them included. They add to the multilayered feeling of this story in the best way possible. Plus, as this is a series, I like that put these characters in and giving them some depth gets us as readers ready for the next books.

This book is a great start to a new series. It’s got all the drama you could want, and the sweetness of young love simply jumps from its pages. I think you’re going to enjoy it as much as I did, and I’m already excited for the next book.
