DNF at 50%. Cringy writing overall. Author tried to use all of the most piratey stereotypes in this book and added them in the worst way possible.

I really loved this whole book! I can't wait for the next in the series. I did not like all the commas for some of the language spoken as it made it bit hard to understand but the story and world building were amazing! Take me away Lincoln!

This features a kingdom ruled by a hateful king who has obliterated all magic, except for what is bound to his crown. Even to the detriment to his own family. Nola, a land-bound siren found and adopted by humans, is desperate to find a way to stop him. Her journey leads her to team up with Captain Lincoln, a dashing pirate who agrees to take her across the treacherous Sea to the Fae and Elven Kingdom to gather allies.

This read was quite fun, particularly because of the pirate element intertwined with the magical fae. I enjoyed the adventure and the unique blend of elements, which kept the story intriguing. I did not really see that twist coming, either.

However, I did struggle with connecting fully to the characters. Events sometimes unfolded too quickly or off-screen, which lessened their emotional impact. It felt like the plot moved forward more out of necessity than organically at times. Despite these very minor issues, I still had a great time reading it. The imaginative setting and the romance between a (secret) siren and a pirate were engaging. It kept me entertained throughout.

Highly recommend for those who love pirates!

I just can’t get into it I’m not sure if it’s the writing or just the plot but I’m not going to force myself to read anything I’m not enjoying.

I've been looking for a book that gave me the same pirate x siren feels that Daughter of the Pirate King gave me, so when I found out about this book I was intrigued to read about it. This was my first book by the author and I loved the writing style. It was easy to read and understand, making me hooked on the plot. I did guess one of the plot twists but I was still shocked when reading. However, as much as I loved the first 75% of it, I started to lose interest once the main characters got together slowly. I felt as if their connection was almost insta lovey since they started liking each other almost 45% in, and that is a trope I don't enjoy.  I just wish it was more of a slow burn between the characters allowing their connection to grow. I did enjoy the ending, once the action started again. Can't wait to read the second book as I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy it more than this one.

I have fallen in love with this series. This book has so many different themes that blend together seamlessly.

The story has a central theme of an anti-magic fueled war, which spans over 2 decades. We experience multiple glimpses of the war during this time, filling in some very important details for what is upcoming for us.
We have the evil villain, the antihero, the found/lost family theme playing a huge role here.
The majority of the tale is told over the course of a seabound journey where our FMC grows and develops into herself, her powers and becomes this badass lovable heroine who I would follow in a heartbeat.

The book is full of steamy romance and love, friendship and trust.
There are a lot of plot twists and I adored them all, they kept me almost jumping out of my skin with tension.
I can honestly say I haven't enjoyed a series this much in a while.

Even the bad guys, you respect their evilness and hate them at the same time.
The good guys, a ragtag bunch of pirates, are the most hilarious and delightful sidekicks I've experienced.
The MMC, our FMC love interest, is absolutely swoonworthy, a handsome pirate that I got captain hook vibes from (once upon a time TV show version) yum.

This book was off the charts spicy. So I thoroughly recommend to my fellow smut sisters.

A sizzling 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for this beautiful tale, of fighting the unjust and clawing the way back to the good life, the one they were rightfully meant to have.

A fantastic example of a swashbuckling adventure Romantasy.

My favourite quote this book:
"To sail wherever the sea of Zemira takes us."
I found it really encapsulated the true essence of the finished story, now they were out of troubled water, they were free to live their lives as they would choose too, without fear of consequence or fear from an unjust society.

-and now that sea is taking me directly to the next book; King Elijah.
