A realistic if bittersweet ending. Surprisingly touching for a book about a child murder.

The first two chapters are the rape and murder of a young girl. The rest is the girl watching her family deal with her death. One of the best so-sad-it's-happy books of all time; better plane book than bedtime reading.

i expected more out of this book...characters were dry and some of the metaphors the author used were confusing...had the potential to be a better story...

Sometimes I got a little lost in the descriptions and couldn’t quite connect. But a lot of this book is touching and so so sad.

It speaks to grief and love in a pure way that I enjoyed.

I will say that one of the final scenes, the one with Ray and Susie, was incredibly confusing for me and took away from the “realness” of the book. At first I saw this as an exploration of the divide between heaven and earth and that piece took all of that wonder and decidedness away. Plus after reading some other reviews I do view it as weird.

This book is haunting, but thoroughly engaging. The perspective of the narrator, the "ghosts", and the images of Heaven are quite different from anything I've read in the past.

It was fine but I wouldn’t read it again. Or even recommend it. I don’t understand the hype over it.
