šŸŒ¶ļøšŸŒ¶ļøšŸŒ¶ļø holy shit. I was not mentally prepared for the turmoil of this book. Itā€™s great, donā€™t get me wrong, but itā€™s TOUGH. The content warning was NOT enough, it should have explicitly stated there was actual scenes of rape and domestic abuse. Definitely could have been triggering to some readers. My pool heart goes out to all survivors šŸ’”

Wow, this was a tough, but good book. Kennedy Ryanā€™s writing is amazing at making you experience what the characters are feeling, both good and bad.

Letā€™s start off with the good feelings. I absolutely love August West! He was basically exactly what Iris needed exactly when she needed him. They were perfect together, once they were given their chance. I love how the ending talked about soulmates, because they are two characters that make me believe in that idea too. I also loved Iris, especially her character growth in the wake of the suffering she endured.

While this book has a lot of triggering content, I think Kennedy Ryan handled it very well. She brought to life the cruelty in this world, but also offered hope in the wake of that cruelty.

I wasnā€™t the biggest fan of august because he has a random ass temper throughout the book and is a bit possessive.Ā

This book had a very strong plot. I think important ideas were being passed along with this book.Ā
However, I wonā€™t lie, it was sort of hard to read. Just because of the content. This book can be traumatic and has a number of assault themes. However, I think a key theme in this book was that sometimes, itā€™s really not easy to leave abusive relationships.Ā
But within all of that, the love story August and Iris had was just soā€¦chemistry-filled and Iā€™m glad it worked out. I donā€™t know how realistic it was with how magnetic all their encounters were with all the odds stacked up against them but I guess thatā€™s how life can be sometimes and who really reads these romance books for how realistic they are.Ā
I wish more had been done to that wicked man Caleb!! Because it was so scary how the red flags started to appear. The bodyguard, him injuring August. The gun. The cutting her off when she tried to run away. Damn, in this life, ladies have something for yourself without settling for good for nothing men who have too much self-importance

Overall, a solid book. But very traumatic.
