This could be a very interesting read for those looking for a different view of the multiverse genre, or the impact of science run unchecked. The story is by no means critical or preachy, but gives a great perspective on what can happen when new ideas or discoveries are exploited before they are fully understood.

On top of that its a fun read. The protagonist may have an eidetic memory but with humor and fascinating strings of logic he takes an impossible problem and turns it on its head - again and again. There is good character development as well - so much do that this could easily be turned into a movie, or a trilogy.

A fun scifi read. Just enough actual science in here to qualify for me as sciencey scifi. It had a great premise behind it and was executed well. Some fun characters helped move the story along. The action kept moving along and was paced well.

What a stupid, stupid book. The main characters are all supposed to be really smart, and yet they fail to see the obvious until the middle of the book. The first part of the book is kind of like a mystery, and the second part of the book becomes pure hollywood b-movie filled with action (and some Lovecraftien inspiration) and nothing even remotely resembling realism. The characters are not terrible well developed, except maybe the main one (a bit more). How many times does a character really have to say "F*** me". That became laughably stupid. And then just annoyingly juvenile. Do not read this book.

Have you been missing characters like Encyclopedia Brown or Sherlock Holmes? Like science-ish thrillers? Here you go! This book is for you.

I’m really enjoying the Threshold series! Peter Clines writes characters really well— they’re fleshed out, interesting, and genuinely funny sometimes. I also want to give Ray Porter a shout out again, he is an awesome narrator and definitely adds to my enjoyment of these books.

I pretty much listened to this in one sitting.

Enjoyable, but I wish the prologue chapter didn't exist. It makes it far too obvious what's going on, and you spend half the book waiting for the characters to catch up.

The third act is a bit too much of a major tonal shift from the rest of the novel too.

This is like a blockbuster movie in book form. It's great if that is your kind of thing, but I found the explanations of wormholes a little patronizing, as a long time science fiction fan. Overall, a very fun book.

An enjoyable romp. The story here is well-paced, engaging and thankfully not too steeped in sci-fi lingo for more casual fans of the genre, plus I appreciated the touches of humor scattered throughout. I don't know how memorable this book will ultimately be or if I will seek out more from Clines in the future, but it was a fun read in the moment.

Requires turning off your brain to enjoy.

There's a lot here that doesn't make sense:
1) a genius with an eidetic memory who misses obvious plot points.
2) a science experiment with government funding that can't show results or follow the scientific method.
3) a top-secret lab with only 7 employees that doesn't receive visitors but has a receptionist (this one bothered me the most, as my book club can attest to. WHAT DOES SHE DO???).
4) a sci-fi story that turns into (for no reason at all)
Spoilera Lovecraftian-horror complete with flying Cthulhu monster
.
5) sexy descriptions of all heterosexual female characters; much describing of hair. The one gay character is a Trekkie, so that covers her personality and no other characterization is needed. /s

But with all that going on, I still read this book quickly in one sitting. It was entertaining and I wanted to know what happened next!

Character development: 1 star (this was a Bella Swan situation)
Story: 3 stars
Writing/Prose: 2 stars
Fun factor: 4 stars
