Hele fijne historische roman! Mooi verhaal wat makkelijk te lezen is. Hou je van de boeken van Diney Costeloe? Dan vind je dit ook mooi, een aanrader!

I listened to the audiobook, so that may have been part of the problem, but I thought some of the details were really distracting, and many of the characters were flat or even unlikable. Otherwise a very interesting story about something I wasn't aware of in Quebec's history.

I very much enjoyed this book. There was not an easy fix for their complex situation and that made the storyline feel real. I know these situations were very real and it’s heartbreaking to think of the struggles both the mothers and children endured. The story was easy to follow, the narrator was amazing and the writing was excellent. I definitely recommend with the content warning for sexual assault, miscarriage, physical abuse and adoption for those that might be sensitive to those topics.
