I have never been able to find a book that makes me so beautifully aware.

The ups and downs of the book are so subtle, so serene, that the conclusion is hard to miss--but to miss it is a great travesty.

Salinger is simply a genius in writing dialogue. These 150 pages are at it's core 4 conversations between deeply flawed but realistic characters. The book is divided into 2 sections: Franny and Zooey
While I loved the Franny part a bit better the overall book was still a 5/5 for me.

I didn't agree with a lot of Salingers points (especially the ones expressed through Zooey) and I wouldn't recommend this as a kind of philosophical read, I thought it a brilliant (even though probably unintentional)character study.
While the dialogue was were the novel shines the most, the writing overall was exceptional.
Franny is probably one of my favourite characters ever. She's flawed and over the top but still extremely relatable. Through the whole book she felt real and I could connect with her and what she stands for from the beginning. I hated her while adoring her, which is ( for me ) a sign of incredible character work.

I absolutely hated Zooey, but I could understand every aspect of him.
Salinger explored the consequences of childhood-stardom way ahead of his time. It seemed to me, that he raised many interesting points and ideas. even if you don't agree with Salingers ideology it's still a very interesting and emotional read.

I needed something to read to cover me for the 24 hours my library was closed. This book has been on my bookshelf for years upon years. I finally picked it up because I knew it would be a quick read. I didn’t mind this book, but at the same time, it didn’t captivate me to the degree it did for others. It was decent enough to pass the time so I do appreciate that.

I do love this quote though “I'm just sick of ego, ego, ego. My own and everybody else's”.

Though nothing grand really happens, and as boring as it may seem to others, I admittedly was still fascinated reading through this book.

It's composed of mundane conversations between the characters. I was reeled in. Maybe because the writing is not something I usually encounter. And discussing spiritual views and beliefs is not that common to see in fictional literature for me either.
