Had no idea who the author is/was when I found this book, liked the title and thought there'd be good stuff in it.
Started the audiobook with the author and someone with her cracking humorless jokes and commentary. Sometimes it was funny but mostly irritating. Bad language, cussing and deregatory remarks about people, co-workers, religion etc. Not something I expect from people of that stature. I'd say there's nothing to take away from here. Just a few laughs. Thank god it was short.

The audiobook is where the good stuff is. I’m glad Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tony Hale had their fun with this, it makes for an entertaining listen!

The HARDCORE Veep fan in me has to point out the fact that Selina names the political parties that, in the show, are normally referred to as the “main” party and the “opposition” party. She explicitly refers to “Democrats and Republicans,” which I’m a bit conflicted about. Never referring to these parties by name contributed to this larger feeling in Veep that it mirrored our political reality just closely enough to make us question it without ruining the comedy by making constant and incessant references to real life. Never speaking their names also speaks to one of the show’s themes about the entrenchment of power and how these governmental institutions and practices in place are there chiefly to keep power in the hands of the establishment. The names Democrat and Republican may change, but the people in power always look after themselves first. At the same time, though, I don’t want to complain and split hairs over something so minute, but I do think it is important to point out.

Listen to it instead of reading it. Works brilliantly well as an audio format.

I chose the audiobook because I feel it fuels the whole fantasy and JLD & Tony are definitely two of the most hilarious people in the world. The highlight of this book is definitely Gary taking over Chapter 4 which is about Selina’s sexual encounters (which he hates the most), Selina redacting everything and not acknowledging Gary as a human being, Selina being completely not relatable with her rich people problems, and Selina comparing Tom James to Ted Bundy and still concluding it with “but I personally like Tom”. I definitely recommend the audiobook since I think the content is infinitely funnier with JLD's commentaries and Selina-Gary banters while reading (which I think is not included in the physical or ebook version)
