One of my all-time favorite fluffy books! I would highly recommend this book to any woman seeking a fun read.

I'm a little torn on the rating on this one, actually. I have neither seen the movie adaptation or read Pride and Prejudice, so while I sort of knew the book was about a single, weight-obsessed, thirty-something I wasn't entirely sure what to expect going in. And it was damn funny. I found myself laughing out loud many times during the book, always a good sign in a book you've chose to accompany you poolside. I liked the story, I thought Bridget was funny, neurotic, and likeable, and the plot moved along nicely.
I did not like the diary format. Or, to be more specific, I didn't like the way this particular "diary" was written. "In future must get right up when wake up and reform entire laundry system." What do you have against "I," Helen Fielding? Grrr. And I actually think I would have been less bothered by it if she had at least been consistent, always omitting the personal pronoun. But no. On most days we see a well-written, more formal form of storytelling and then we get a few of those sentences thrown in each day for good measure. V. annoying. Which, since I'm already complaining, was also irritating. How much harder is it to write "very?" I know of no one who writes their diaries and journals in such a way. But overall I truly enjoyed the story and I'm glad this is the one I picked for my mini-vacation. Easy enough to get into and not hard to put down to do more pressing things, like gamble or hit the pool bar.

After hearing so many good things about this book, I had to check it out for myself. I guess I am still feeling a little divided as to how I really felt about his book. I mean, I found it enjoyable; however, I feel it was hyped up a bit too much. The story is basically Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen modernized. Yes, there were parts of the book that made me laugh out loud, but all in all I think it was just okay.

Tough tough read with all the weight fixation and diet culture, but Bridget herself is truly so charming

Cute read for autum with your cat on your lap and hot Chocolate, it’s cute but don’t expect too much of it.
Enemies to lovers and adorable.
Watched the movie for the first time so I had to red the book right after !
I am back in my pride and prejudice era
Mark Darcy is adorable such a sweety❤️
I know this book was written in 1999 but can we stop making « fat » a part of the characterization ? She needs to stop counting her calories like common she is badass these men are at her feet. Stop playing the « omg the fat giro gets handsome man to look at her » card, it’s a no. And just skip then calories and cigarettes count honestly it’s repetitive and annoying.
The mom is dumb and ridiculous…
The date fail because he knocked and she was using the hairdryer and doesn’t hear wtf ?? Don’t your all have phones ?
Différence with the movie :
- No Kent trip with Daniel
- She thinks she is pregnant
- Mark has a diamond shirt not a reindeer one
- The friends help her for her birthday dinner not Mark

bought this book years ago and finally gave it a read - very charming and funny and made me feel like I’d stepped inside the body of Bridget Jones (for better or for worse)…

I listened to this as an eBook rather than reading it; so it did take a few minutes to acclimate to the writing style. I believe if I had been reading it, I would have fell into the style quicker.
The book is written just like a diary with entries for various days of the year. It covers one year of Bridget's life, but like us, Bridget doesn't remember to fill in every day, so this is about 1/3 of the normal size novel.
Bridget will definitely make you laugh as she navigates her way through being a singleton, dealing with friends who keep asking when will she find a guy, dealing with her job, her boss (who is a cad), dinner parties where dress codes are changed and not communicated, new job, friends, parents, and more.
