The premise was really interesting but I felt like there were too many unnecessary characters and information about them that weren’t relevant to the main plot. The first half was really dragging and could have been much shorter. The author’s writing style just wasn’t for me as well, as I often found myself just skimming through each page.

While I liked Jeremy, I wish there was more of Dr. Derek and that he became Deanna’s sidekick instead. Nonetheless, I did find myself rooting for Deanna and Annie and was racing to read the ending during the second half of the book.

The quality of this author isn't in question, so it comes down to how the edgier themes are received. The story wasn't at all what I was expecting and while I like dark and twisty, pedophilia is not a topic I tolerate well, so I had apprehensions for the first half of the book and can't fault anyone who doesn't finish it. But it worked out and redeemed itself. Ultimately I'd say it's a cute book. I picture the main character kinda as an adorable little bat saying, "I am the night!"

Definitely looking forward to checking out more of her books.

This was a quick and easy read that I enjoyed. It was not the most well-written book, so if you're a stickler for dramatic prose and literary devices you have chosen the wrong book. However, it is interesting - a plot that is not necessarily believable but fun nonetheless. A warning that it is fairly raunchy; there are scenes dedicated entirely to online camming involving a variety of kinks and even pedophilia. It is also rather gory; there are in depth descriptions of murder and mutilation. If you can handle those two things then I would recommend!

Probably closer to 3.5 in rating

This was fun! It kept me hooked and I read it within two days. Definitely has strong Dexter vibes- a main character with strong homicidal tendencies who tries to take it out on someone who deserves it.
Deanna was an interesting character and I liked hearing her internal thoughts-even when they became very repetitive at times. The main plot however takes its sweet time to actually unfold and then is wrapped up very conveniently.
The romance is very strange in my opinion. It kind of comes out of nowhere with no real build up, and I was not really feeling it.
Overall I think the best way to enjoy this story is to not think to hard about it.

Worth noting this book is considered an erotic thriller and her cam sessions take up a large portion of the beginning of the book- so if that's not your jam maybe skip entirely.

4 stars. Not exactly what I was expecting based off of the synopsis but I still really enjoyed it. A.R. Torre is slowly but surely becoming one of my favorites. She does dark and twisted so freaking well.

This was a very addictive read that grabbed me from the very beginning. Deanna is such a unique and fascinating character. She works as a cam girl and locks herself inside of her apartment so that she won’t go out and kill people. Judge me all you want but I thought she was awesome. Not because she had urges and thoughts of killing people (I’m not a psychopath. tuh) but just something about her character outside of that I really liked. She was very witty and independent and strong. She took no shit from no one and I’m always here for characters like that. Plus, her growth as a character was really good and no spoilers, but what she does in the end puts her in the ‘forever a bad ass’ category for me. It was great.

I liked that there was a hint of a romance, if you can even call it that. It’s more like the start of something, not really romance, between Deanna and Jeremy. It really takes a backseat to the main plot and doesn’t really get touched upon until the very end. It was well done and I can definitely see it going somewhere between the two of them. They’re both fucked up so it’s match made in craziness. Cute.

The writing was good, the suspense was top notch and kept me on edge and the ending wrapped up nicely. I could definitely see this being just a stand alone but I am glad that there are more books because I want to keep reading about Deanna and where she goes from here.

I ATE this book up. If your a character driven reader then this book is perfect for you. The plot felt kind of secondary. I loved the concept, I feel if you like The Mindf*ck series you will love this.

I have also only just realised this is a series and ordered the rest instantly!
