It glorifies status and gushes over the perks without also listing the downsides, e.g. constantly being asked for favors, never being sure if people are genuinely caring or if they are being exploitative.
After the introduction, it becomes really dry and difficult to read.

I like this author's style; he lays out a comprehensive explanation of how status seeking, conscious but also often unconscious, shapes cultural change, and backs it up with an amusing array of examples from all over the cultural landscape.

It was extremely dry and the author keeps going in circles to make their point. Too many quotes from anthropologists, sociologists and so on.

The definitive book on social class and status signaling. Takes Bourdieu to the next level.

Some interesting bits but I did not feel I learned anything new. Nearly aggressively boring in places.
