Thank you to netgalley.com and Scholastic books for allowing me access to this title.

This has been a fun journey with Conner, Meilin, Rollan, and Abeke. I am excited to find what the next chapter brings for them.

WHOA!!! The series took a HUGE leap forward in intensity with this installment. I had pretty much decided nothing much would surprise me with it and was just sort of trundling along...and then I got smacked in the face! The ending is a total shocker and cliffhanger (unless you are WAY better than I am at picking up on foreshadowing and curveballs). Still nothing inappropriate for middle grade (elementary school age) readers.

Against the Tide is also the first in this series to actually have what I would call quotable lines. There was some humor alongside of all the "OMG" happening, and I actually went and looked up the author's other books because I enjoyed it that much.

Unfortunately keeping with the lack of animal knowledge again. I wish they would say orca rather than killer whale. It also contributes to the idea that sharks are some man-hunting, malevolent animal, which is a tiring piece of misinformation littered everywhere.

I was NOT expecting the plot twist. Wow! I thought when Mulop warned Meilin, Jhi was going to die. But that was so much worse!

I don't have a whole lot more to say about this book than all the others. The story was great, battles were exciting, character development was on point. I'm loving the story for the most part!

So far my least favorite of the series. It's not bad but I'm just no longer as invested in this series as I used to be in the first two books.

The fifth book in this series and so far they have all been enjoyable. My nephew is a big fan and always encourages me to read them. Plus this book had an ending that he wanted to make sure I read so we could talk about it. Not sure how long this series goes but so far so good.

Ce tome en général est plutôt lent et l'accent n'est pas mis sur un personnage en particulier ce qui fait en sorte qu'on a l'impression qu'il ne sert que de

The ending was such a shock. I was not expecting that at all.

I did not like Sutherland's take on the characters as much as the other authors. She did a few things different that sort of annoyed me. Other than that, all the great things about this series remained the same.

Although I enjoyed the story I was starting to feel like I would take a break before reading the last two in the series until the end. I have a love/hate relationship with twists in the ending. Now I have to read the next book just to make sure that everything happens the way I want it to happen.

When one spirit animal is found being treated badly by his bond the young characters comment, "I don't understand how one could treat such a special gift so badly" or something to that effect.
I thought about the way so many treat people around them. We are all a gift to each other. We are here to bless and lift each other not to verbally or physically abuse them to get what we think we want out of our desperate life. Giving not taking seems backwards but it is the only way to find your life -by loosing it.
