I was really excited to see the second volume of Margaret Atwood's Angel Catbird graphic novel hit shelves. However, I was a bit disappointed in the narrative. Our heroes spend most of the time--as the title suggests--walking to Count Catula's castle.

There are a couple histories told along the way--including Count Catula's--but that doesn't do much to move the overarching story along.

I was also really disappointed in Angel Catbird's response to meeting Atheen-owl (an owl woman descended from the Greek goddess Athena). The love triangle she creates between Cate, Angel, and her is unnecessary and honestly makes me dislike our hero. And two strong female characters fighting over a man? No thank you.

Do not get me started on Count Catula's multiple wives.

I wanted more from this graphic novel, even if it's just a fun excuse to teach cat facts.

There was some amusement value in the first one because it was such a perfect parody of older comics. However, the novelty has worn off and the didacticism is just too heavy-handed. Morality is best served subtly in books.

I don’t need to read any more of this series. It’s just not working for me.

I wouldn't expect anything less, especially after enjoying vol. 1.
Cute, pun-filled fun. I'd recommend this to any kids wanting to get into comics.

I suspect the cheesiness of these comics is on purpose.

To quote a friend who summed it up nicely, "I have no idea why I am still reading these."

Ok, so this is fun but bonkers and I'm not always sure it knows where it's going. As with the first one, I enjoyed it but didn't love it. This brings more characters and more confusion in someways - I want to know what happens next, but I'm not sure I care enough to keep shelling out for the hardbacks. I liked it more than a lot of people around here seem to, but then I like cat puns and those of the literary allusions that I get!
