Belle is a young girl with purple hair who is convinced a red rose from deep in the forest will help her strange purple locks be more appealing. Her mother follows and begs her not to go into the forest because of the terrible beast who lives there. As if she summons him, Belle's mother is abducted, and the Beast steals her beautiful face. The town burns the body in the hopes it will stop the Beast from coming back. Belle’s father can’t take the loss of his wife, so he shuts Belle up in their house and refuses to let anyone see her, while he spends the day drinking away the pennies she makes with her seamstress work. One day, Belle escapes and is determined to find her mother, who she believes is still alive in the Beast's castle. She finds the Beast, but he isn’t exactly how she remembers him. He’s rude, uncaring, but not murderous, and doesn’t steal her face. His magical floating castle brings her back to her village, but evil forces have been at work while Belle was away.

I really wanted to like this more then I did. Beast is kind of a douchebag and Belle is a little bit of an oxymoron. I am hoping it gets better because a horror spin on Beauty and the Beast is a cool idea.

I love the twist that Kaori Yuki brought to the retelling of Beauty and the Beast. The beast is an interesting character with his small quirks. I cannot wait for the rest of this series to see how it unfolds.

Story 3,6/5
Emotionen 2,4/5
Charaktere 3,4/5
Spannung/Unterhaltung 4,0/5
Zeichenstil 3,6/5
Lesegefühl 3,0/5
Gesamt 3,4/5

Beauty and the Beast of Paradise Lost 1 by Kaori Yuki was a darker and surprising twist on the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale, which is my absolute favorite, so I was really excited to try this one. This first volume was pretty much just the setup for the story, but it's very different from the usual pattern so far. The father figure is cruel and there's a second evil beast? Very interesting. The art is great and the story is definitely intriguing , but I'll have to read more volumes before I can tell if I'll like it or not. ;-)

Artwork is so appealing. Story is interesting and mysterious. Strong elements of batb but different story. Lots of good atmosphere.

The art is beautiful but the story is a mess...I'll need to read a couple more volumes before I make a decision. While I'm thrilled Kaori Yuki is still writing (and getting US releases) oh how I wish someone would pick up Ludwig Revolution. IT'S JUST 4 VOLUMES AND I WANT TO BUY IT IN ENGLISH GODDAMNIT.

I received this book from Netgalley/publisher in exchange of an honest review.

So, when I saw that Kaori Yuki had a new manga... of course I had to request it. I have read several of her manga and I knew that this was going to be dark and weird. XD And it was! This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling and BOY BOY BOY it is fucking dark. Our Belle is a girl who after years doesn't believe she is beautiful, thanks mom and dad. There is a monster out there posing like the beast... and murdering all women who are beautiful. And then there is the real beast... who is quite beastly but I also quite liked him as he does show some great qualities (he does save Belle a few times and shows appreciation for her... well sometimes). I loved reading about the curse and the castle. And there is a villain and I just love her design.
But yeah, darkness everywhere with a fucked up family for Belle and things that are bad everywhere.
Belle is a bit hit/miss, sometimes I like her, other times she was just so frustrating.
I am definitely curious to see how this story goes.
And sorry, not in the mood to write a superlong review for my blog. Tired + not feeling well.
