The four days I spent reading the book felt unbelievably long and I struggled to get into the flow and characters of the book. I thought I would like Rua's character but I mostly found her tiresome.

CW: violence, death, torture

Not as good as the first in the series, in fact the heroine is pretty darn unlikeable for the first 3/4 of the book!  But the previous heroine shows up sometimes and other likeable characters from the first book are in the story.  I really like the world the author has created, and I'm going to continue reading the series. :)

The first 2/3 of this book was quite boring for me. I get the trauma narrative and I think the author wrote it well, but the resulting miscommunication / lack of communication is one of my biggest pet peeves to read about. Again, I think it was well written and accurate to if they had been real people, I just personally don’t like miscommunication even if it is valid like in this case.

The last third of the book picked up and I enjoyed it much more, not sure if it’s enough to convince me to read the third book though.
