An unusual fantasy story that usually isn't told. Focusing on two heroes in old age after losing power is a bold choice that doesn't come to fruition until the end. The action is a bit too plodding early on which detracts from the point that Le Guin was going for. Similar to how I feel about most of Earthsea in that it is a great idea with only so-so execution.

Drei! (Und alle drei sind extrem unheldenhaft).

This is hands-down my favorite installment in the Earthsea Cycle. This story sees the world of Earthsea through the lens of the poor, the elderly, the women, the downtrodden. Even Ged, who was once the mighty heroic mage, comes into the story broken and lost. This story looks at another side of Earthsea. It was powerful and heart-wrenching. If you are misogynistic, however, you will probably not like it as it does not fulfill any male power fantasies. Buh-bye.
