I have been staring at this graphic novel from a far since it came into the bookstore. I had high hopes for it and I can say with pure confidence that it did not disappoint. From the topics that it covers (colonialism, prejudice, military's exploitation on the young/poor and the consequences of war) to simply just the artwork its a *chefs kiss*. Aiza has always wanted to be a squire so when the opportunity came, she had to take it. If you love rooting for the underdog you'll love rooting for Aiza. She's quick witted, determined, and feisty! I want to know everything about all these characters!

Had a hard time focusing on graphic novels/mangas towards the end of the year. Will pick back up in early 2023!

Feisty Fighter

This was a graphic novel that strongly represents and supports Girl Power and fighting for what you believe in. The colors blended as you read the story, not too much pop, just enough. Aiza was a hoot. Doruk had a heart of gold, and a fondness for Aiza that he didn’t want to show. Sahar and Husni were strong supporting characters, just like Aiza, trying to0 find their place in the world. A solid Graphic Novel adventure, for both MG and HS readers.

Excellent and very thought-provoking book. Did not go as I expected and would be a good book for discussion with middle and high schoolers. The visuals are stunning.
