Ho molto apprezzato questa sorta di "retelling" della vita di Ulisse. La prosa di Manfredi è impeccabile e ha la capacità di incollarti alle pagine facendoti divorare i suoi libri un capitolo dopo l’altro (nonostante la loro lunghezza). In questo poi secondo me ha richiamato un po’ la prosa omerica, con frasi brevi, paragoni e metafore.
Ulisse viene raccontato dall’infanzia fino alla fine della guerra di Troia, insieme a tutta una serie di famosissimi personaggi dell'epica. Devo dire che ho apprezzato molto la possibilità di leggere la guerra di Troia così, tutta d’un fiato, proprio come se fosse un romanzo, comprendendo finalmente alcuni nessi tra episodi super famosi ma che avevo studiato tutti uno alla volta. La stessa cosa mi era capitata anche con La Divina Commedia riveduta e scorretta, e penso che questi retelling più facili da gestire rispetto alle grandi opere da cui sono tratti ti permettono di conoscerle e apprezzarle molto più di quanto non sia stato possibile al liceo.

Non ho mai preso in considerazione di leggere un libro di Manfredi, convinta che le storie narrate non facessero per me, perché "difficili" e perché no, anche un po' noiose, con troppi nomi ed eventi, anche se ogni volta mi ripromettevo di tentarci, anche su consiglio di un amico che ha quasi letto tutte i suoi libri.
Ed ora, in questo 2022 e grazie al GdL e alla challenge è arrivato il momento. Anche confrontarsi con altri è stato importante, ho notato di essere in linea con le altre partecipanti ma soprattutto ho notato sin dalle prime pagine di essermi sbagliata perché sin da subito la scrittura di Manfredi mi ha affascinata, la lettura incuriosiva e scorreva veloce tanto che in un niente mi sono ritrovata ad andare oltre il capitolo fissato per la prima tappa.
Ad essere sincera, leggendo i primi capitoli, non avevo capito che in realtà stessi leggendo la storia di Ulisse.
In questo libro Manfredi narra le vicende di Odysseo, dall'infanzia fino a quando, divenuto re di Itaca, fa ritorno a casa dopo la fine della guerra di Troia.
Una scrittura realistica e fluida che invoglia a leggere un genere che non è così tanto preso in considerazione, o per lo meno ero io a non volerlo fare. Così mi si è aperto un mondo, sulla mitologia, che voglio colmare leggendo l'Iliade e l'Odissea.

Terminé!!! Viva!! (Que ya sé que a vosotos, plin, pero es que he tardado tanto tiempo...).
Vaya por delante que adoro a Odiseo/Ulises y que La Odisea es uno de mis libros favoritos. Aquí acompañamos a Odiseo desde su infancia hasta el final de La Guerra de Troya (esta parte se narra en La Iliada). Mi interés ha ido aumentando según avanzaba la lectura porque la parte de Odiseo más joven, mñe, pero la parte de Odiseo adulto, uuuuuuuuuuhhh. Manfredi mantiene un lenguaje cercano al de la época, lo que nos ayuda a situarnos mejor y poder entender sus costumbres, su modo de actuar, su respeto a los dioses... Eso sí, el uso de la primera persona no me ha gustado. El libro lo narra el protagonista en primera persona y a mí, en lugar de acercarme más a la historia, me ha alejado. Me ha faltado la magia que me encandiló en el primer Alexandros, aquí me ha parecido todo bastante desprovisto de pasión y de sentimiento. A ver si la segunda parte, cuya historia adoro, me llega más.
(Que no se diga que una haggard vive de romántica nada más! XD)

The third brought me to the first..albeit 10 years too late..
Most of my book diet during my middle and high school years was dependent on the books my sister picked up for me during vacations. I would pour over them every chance I could get. Re-reading them for want of new ones. And out of the ones that stuck with me, was the third installment of the Odysseus series by Manfredi. It thrilled me to no end. Imagine my distress when I tried but failed to get the other two parts. Years went by and The Oracle slipped my mind. Only to surface again a decade later, when I went through my goodreads stats and shelves. And I wasted no time in laying hands on the other two parts. An odyssey of sorts in its own right, eh?
While the first two parts can be read as mythological derivations, the third part is bound to try a new reader. I went through the series in order and my fascination from the time I first encountered it carried me through this time around. For me, being awash in the feelings a decade old was worth it :) This series makes for a leisurely read on Odysseus' life. Not on par with Madeline Miller's works but definitely worth a read. Give it a chance if you're intrigued :)

⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Oath centers on Odysseus as the center character and his life before and during the Trojan years.
⭐⭐⭐ The Return centers on Odysseus' journey back to Ithaca after the Trojan War and an intriguing end that bleeds into the third part.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Oracle is a thriller centered around modern day characters and through interesting plot development intersects with Odysseus' fate.
While the first two parts can be read as mythological derivations, the third part is bound to try a new reader. me ha llevado tiempo leer este libro más que nada porque fue quedando relegado por otras lecturas pero en los últimos días me puse las pilas y lo he terminado... mortales, semidioses y dioses olímpicos forman parte de esta historia que todos conocemos de una u otra forma. personajes como Heracles/Hércules, Odiseo/Ulises y Aquiles son algunos con quien nos encontraremos y compartiremos sus historias pero todas ellas a través de los ojos de Odiseo. me ha gustado mucho la forma de narrar de Manfredi, arranca con un prólogo que nos habla del presente de este héroe para a partir del capítulo 1 conocer su vida desde su más tierna infancia hasta llegar al final de una sangrienta guerra pero sin saber aún como Odiseo llegó a la situación del prólogo... supongo que en Odiseo el regreso podremos averiguarlo. si les gusta este tipo de historias deberían darle una oportunidad a este gran libro

This book was decent. It was easy to read and understand. I learned even more about the Trojan War, but I prefer the books by Adele Geras to this one. Adele Geras was more dramatic. Her books included romance as well as adventure. This book simply had adventure. At some points, the author would drop something important in a subtle manner and would expect the reader to pick it up, but because it was so subtle, it was hard for the reader to notice.
